Hey, Creepers! Leave That Kid Alone

This is going to be a short but heartfelt rant.

The Democratic vice-presidential nominee made his official debut with his acceptance speech last night (I did not watch as my views on him are pretty well-known 'round these here parts.).

Jazz covered it for us this morning, such as it was. God bless him, and he even included the reason I'm kinda pissed off right now.

The Democrats continue to drag out their convention and milk it for every bit of earned media they can wring out of it. That process continued last night with the address from their newly minted Vice Presidential candidate, Tim Walz. The press was eating up the appearance of Walz's family in the audience, particularly his sobbing son who proudly declared, "That's my dad!" You can't really blame them because it was a rather touching moment and Walz's family is acting as if they still can't believe he's in this position. (Trust us... many of us can't believe it either.)

As my tenderhearted buddy said, it was a "rather touching moment" and when I actually got to see it, I was sniffling.

Why?

Because it's a boy who loves his dad and, in that moment, is so proud of him, the teenager is simply overwhelmed with love and expresses it with everything fiber of his being.

THAT'S MY DAD

I had to watch the video of Gus Walz because of this tweet - because I could not understand what she was saying in it...or why.

I am sure as much of the emotion of Gus's mom and sister were due to him as because of his father being on that stage.

That young man's unabashed pride and adoration of his dad tears at your heart.

THAT'S MY DAD

Are we not the party of being all about that love? Are we not the people who cherish children, ALL children?

What father's chest wouldn't about burst from hearing his boy - or his daughter - so elated they're screaming to the world their pride in their father?

THAT'S MY DAD

Are we not the party that fiercely defended keeping Barron Trump from the ugliness Democrats threw at him simply because of who his father was and tore up anyone who tried to use his love for his dad as a weapon of derision and expression of hate?

Then I found an explanation for "what comments." Some people make me sick.

We are not this, whatever this bile-filled, childless cat-lady venom towards an emotional young man is.

There are so many disgraceful others - some huge accounts - and, of course, people making excuses for the above Xweet: "Oh, it was a play on Walz's 'weird' thing and she just didn't think..."

Oh, you bet she didn't. To use that child's face to begin with, less mind her unforgivably snarky caption.

Unacceptable for a so-called "conservative."

She's not part of my tribe.

We later find out that young Gus has his challenges on top of being a teenager.

  • "Hope, Gus and Gwen, you are my entire world and I love you," said Walz, prompting his 17-year-old son, with tears in his eyes, to stand and say: "That's my dad!"
  • The reaction of Gus, who has a non-verbal learning disorder, ADHD and an anxiety disorder, went viral soon after.

But challenged or not shouldn't matter, to begin with - it should only make it more important to leave kids alone.

Preach.

This is who we are or who we always claim to be when it comes to our own children.

It's who we should be for anyone's children.

We are for children who love their dads, whoever those dads might be.

There are too few relationships left like that in this world, and we are the ones defending them.

Leave the kids alone.
