A middle school English teacher in Maryland was suspended when her social media posts on Facebook surfaced. She singled out four wealthy local Jews as ‘gluttons and thieves.’

Angela Wolf is not only a middle school English teacher, but she is also an official with the Montgomery County Education Association. She is a leader in the middle school’s English Language Development (ELD) Department. She works primarily with multilingual students.

Her antisemitic Facebook posts from 2022 are vile.

She seems to have been triggered by the names of prominent Jewish people in the Maryland area appearing on the Forbes list of America’s 400 richest people in 2022. She singled out four Jewish men as her targets.

English teacher Angela Wolf was sent home from Takoma Park Middle School after the seeming anti-Semitic 2022 Facebook post emerged among a blizzard of messages attacking Israel and demanding ‘No war but class war!’

‘None of these people invented anything useful and are [sic] have done a damn thing to further the needs of communities,’ she told her followers.

‘They are gluttons and thieves, they accumulated this kind of wealth through abusing workers.’

Wolf also reposted a cartoon of an Israeli tank pointing its cannon at babies in a hospital with the caption ‘Enemies in sight’, accused Israel of ‘slaughter’, and claimed the country is ‘determined to make Gaza uninhabitable.’

She sounds nice. When her antisemitic posts surfaced, Wolf claimed she didn’t know the four men were Jewish. She denied knowing that her words have a historic significance in the Jewish community. However, she ignored two billionaires who are not Jews on the list. The school went forward with her suspension.

Erin Martin, principal of the school in Silver Spring, Maryland, said the posts had ‘undermined our school’s values of respect and belonging’.

‘I was extremely saddened and disappointed by the contents of these posts and strongly condemn the views expressed,’ she added.

All of this was before the October 7 massacres by Hamas in Israel. There is more ugliness, though, from Wolf and it came after October 7. Last month she praised bus drivers who refused to pick up hundreds of Jews at Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C., leaving them stranded as they were in town for a pro-Israel rally. Wolf posted, ‘Their solidarity with the victims of Israeli genocide should be commended.’ Ah, the trope of Israeli genocide rears its ugly head.

Even though she is suspended, she remains on the board of the teachers union. The union represents 14,000 staff in the county.

‘ Any action resulting from an investigation will be considered a personnel matter,’ district officials wrote to parents.

‘Due to employee privacy laws MCPS and Takoma Park Middle School are unable to provide further details on the personnel matter.’

A personnel matter. How convenient. This should be taken as the union’s support of Hamas, in my opinion. Wolf is anti-Israel and anti-Jewish. Palestinians are not distinguishing from Hamas as the war rages on. Palestinians put Hamas in control of Gaza. Hamas violated the ceasefire it had with Israel, which included their neighbors in Israel that they invaded and slaughtered.

Wolf’s posts are no longer up on social media. There is only a post that praises her. ‘Teachers like Angela Wolf and others who have the heart and decency to be in the struggle for human rights should be applauded, not sanctioned, and especially not by a school district’. ‘Palestinians are an oppressed minority and need world support for their struggle against occupation and living under an apartheid regime,’ it adds.

Others criticized Wolf. Her remarks were written off as the ‘ignorant ramblings of a lunatic anti-Semite.’. One suggested she fly to Gaza to teach ESL. Others said they would be happy to pay for her airline ticket and salary if she left and went to Gaza.

Wolf isn’t the only middle school teacher in Maryland to get into hot water over antisemitic posts on social media. A history teacher at Tilden Middle School was suspended after claiming that Israelis kill Palestinians to sell their organs. She called the massacres on October 7 a hoax. She denied the attacks at the musical festival and the atrocities committed against women and children, even babies. The history teacher is a team leader for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Ugh.

These stories help us to understand how the waves of antisemitism have come onto the campuses of colleges and universities, as well as cities across the country. This kind of normalizing of antisemitism begins early. These are middle school teachers. They teach core subjects like English and history. It defies logic that the thoughts of women filled with this hatred for Jews do not spill over into their classrooms. Antisemitism is taught, either in the home or in the classroom. The grooming of the next generation of anti-Semites begins at a young age.
