It’s no secret that Democrats want Donald Trump to be the Republican nominee for president. They think Joe Biden can beat him in a re-match of the 2020 election. Joy Behar admitted on Wednesday’s broadcast of The View that “Trump is the one who needs to get the nomination because then the Democrats will win.”

I didn’t watch the show because I never watch the show. I have no patience for any of the women who sit around that table and opine all that they opine. The latest token conservative is no prize, either. I’ll get to her in a minute.

The segment on Trump, DeSantis, and the GOP nomination was as bad as conservatives would expect. Faux conservative Alyssa Farah Griffin declared that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is the most overrated Republican politician out there. She’s bothered by the fact that he hasn’t tried to bloody up Trump yet. She wants to see two things – DeSantis sit down with “a neutral observer, like George Stephanopoulos” and “actually answer tough questions.” And, she wants to see DeSantis “take a punch at Trump.” Not literally, but figuratively, as in taking the fight to Trump.

Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg had great fun mocking DeSantis. When Griffin briefly mentioned DeSantis and his re-election victory in Florida, Goldberg asked, “Who else were they going to elect?” Behar went on to call DeSantis “a dweeb.” It was all mean girls’ stuff. There is no intellectual discussion allowed on the show because the women are not bright. The audience claps like trained seals no matter what the women say.

It is beyond frustrating that a strong, articulate conservative woman is not allowed to be a cast member of The View. The only conservative women ABC hires are those who crave acceptance by liberal women and are willing to sell out their conservative beliefs for a little positive reinforcement. Alyssa Farah Griffin called George Stephanopoulos a neutral observer, for heaven’s sake. In what world? He was hired by ABC News when he left the Clinton administration where he served as the communications director. He was Clinton’s mouthpiece in the media. He’s a partisan Democrat. There is nothing neutral about him. Farah didn’t work for Trump but she did work for Mike Pence in the last administration. Her livelihood came from a Republican administration. She sounds like a Democrat now. Farah is almost – almost- as bad as Ana Navarro, who also used to make a living off of Republicans.

Behar did accidentally speak the truth when she said Democrats need Trump to be the Republican nominee. If he is, will Biden win a re-match? I think so. Unless Trump changes course and talks about real issues that voters are concerned about and talks up his accomplishments from his term in office, he won’t convince anyone to vote for him other than his most loyal base voters – about 25% of the Republican Party now. He can’t win without independent voters and they are not coming back to him. Independents voted for him in 2016 but not in 2020. They won’t vote for him in 2024 because he has exhausted them with his behavior. They may vote for Republicans down-ballot but not Trump if he is the nominee for president. Voters want change in 2024. Trump is almost as old as Biden and he may not be feeble and growing worse in dementia as Biden is but Trump shows sluggishness and does not seem to have much energy for this campaign, certainly not as he did in 2016 or even 2020. His speeches focus on victimhood and a stolen election. It makes him look whiny and weak.

DeSantis is sinking in some polls and that is making Democrats breathe a sigh of relief. I think his numbers will self-correct in those polls when he formally announces his candidacy if he does, and he becomes more well-known around the country. Trump has had the benefit of name recognition and the celebrity factor since he entered the political world. DeSantis is popular in Florida and he needs to work on boosting his identity throughout the country. His book tour is a good start. He’s going to Israel in April and that is a traditional move for a potential Republican candidate to make.

Part of the reason DeSantis may be going down in some polls is due to Trump’s phony story that he was going to be arrested last week. That didn’t happen but the story dominated the news cycles all week. Trump did some fundraising off of the story. Now we learn that there was a scheduled hiatus all along for the grand jury and they won’t be meeting again until later in April. At this point, after all the negative press that D.A. Bragg has received over Trump’s possible indictment and arrest, I doubt it will happen. It shouldn’t happen. It’s a misdemeanor if anything, and no president has ever been indicted or arrested after leaving office. I think that Bragg will look for a way to get out of the predicament he’s gotten himself in.

Behar said the quiet part out loud. Democrats need Trump. The media need Trump, too. Trump is good for business.
