Tim Ryan fails miserably to explain his flip-flopping on abortion in Fox town hall

Fox News Channel hosted a town hall event for Republican J.D. Vance and Democrat Rep. Tim Ryan. The two men are in a squeaker of a race, with J.D. Vance pulling head of Ryan, but just barely. The town hall was hosted by Special Report host Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum, host of The Story with Martha MacCallum.

I’m not going to lie, I’m a political junkie that watches these town halls whenever possible. I don’t mind the ones on Fox if I like the moderators. In this case, I did. And, I wanted to see Ryan vs Vance. I haven’t seen much of Vance and wanted to see how he handles himself in front of a live audience. I watched their debate the other night but this format was different. The men were not on the stage together. First Tim Ryan came out and answered questions from the audience, from Twitter, and from the moderators. Then J.D. Vance did the same.

What was striking was how slimy Tim Ryan is as he tries really hard to pretend to be a moderate to conservative Democrat. He’s a Nancy Pelosi kind of Democrat, votes 100% with her and is trying to court independent and moderate Republicans in this election. When the topic of abortion came up, he had some explaining to do.

As we know, abortion is the top issue that Democrats are campaigning on because they don’t have anything else to talk about. It turns out that it isn’t the winning strategy that Democrats thought it would be, especially in really tight races, especially in states like Ohio. So, Ryan has to pretend to be reasonable on the issue. It’s a stretch. In July, the House passed the Women’s Health Protection Act. Ryan voted for it. The bill would “codify a nationwide right to abortion, preserving the legal protections recognized by the decisions for Roe and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, which upheld the right to abortion in 1992. It would prohibit any federal or state government to “enact or enforce any law, rule, regulation, standard, or other provision having the force and effect of law that conflicts” with any of the bill’s provisions.” It won’t pass in the Senate. Democrats are desperate to codify Roe v Wade and Biden has already said it will be his top item on his second term agenda, if he has a second term.

Anyway, Tim Ryan is running away from abortion extremism these days. Now Ryan says he doesn’t support late term abortions, though that is not how he votes.

“I believe if it’s later in the term there should not be an abortion unless there is a medical emergency,” Ryan said when asked what his limits would be.

“At that point, you know, people are — they have a nursery, they have binkies, they have blankets. They have names picked out. They are ready to have a party. If it happens late in term, that’s tragedy, absolute tragedy,” he added.

Ryan went on to claim that Vance supports a national ban on abortion and reiterated his support for Roe v. Wade.

He’s right about Vance being pro-life and supporting a ban on abortion. Ryan won’t say when abortion should be illegal but Vance is unapologetically pro-life and said abortion should be illegal once a baby can feel pain in the womb. Vance said during their earlier debate that he supports Senator Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) national abortion ban after 15 weeks of pregnancy.

Vance, when asked by debate moderators if he would vote for Graham’s bill that bans abortion after 15 weeks, said he thinks it’s “totally reasonable to say you cannot abort a baby, especially for elective reasons, after 15 weeks of gestation.”

“No civilized country allows it,” Vance continued. “I don’t want the United States to be an exception.”

Ryan does not agree with Ohio’s state ban on abortion after 22 weeks. He refuses to be nailed down with what his limit is, though. He speaks in general terms of a late-term abortion.

Rep. Ryan is slimy. He is trying to be all things to all people but his record is clear.

Guess who is endorsing Tim Ryan in the Senate race? Liz Cheney. Remember when she was a Republican and demanded conservatives vote for the Republican ticket no matter what? Good times, good times. Now she’s just another Trump deranged Republican who campaigns for Democrats. She’s burning all the bridges on her way out. Trump broke a lot of people and she’s one of them. She endorsed Ryan on Tuesday in Cleveland.

U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican ousted from office this year after voting to impeach ex-President Donald Trump, endorsed Democratic U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan in Ohio’s U.S. Senate race at the City Club of Cleveland on Tuesday.

Cheney said during an appearance at Cleveland State University that Republicans should reject Vance and other candidates who echo Trump’s false claims about the 2020 election, which have been rejected by dozens of courts, top officials in Trump’s own Homeland Security and Justice departments, some Trump family members and former campaign officials, and some top Republicans, including retiring Sen. Rob Portman, who has endorsed Vance.

Cheney was in Cleveland Tuesday on her way to Michigan, where she plans to campaign for Democratic U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, previously the only other Democrat Cheney had endorsed. She told the audience, which included some prominent local Republican political and business leaders, that she does not think she previously has even voted for a Democrat, much less endorsed one.

She’s making up for lost time.

Pathetic.

J.D. Vance did well at the town hall. He was very enthusiastically welcomed by the live audience. There were plenty of Ryan supporters, too, but it seemed like Vance received more applause. This race is down to the wire and a nail-biter. Real Clear Politics averaging has Vance up by 2.0 points. It labels the race as leans Republican. It says the seat will hold Republican, as Senator Portman, a Republican, is retiring and a J.D. Vance win would keep the seat as a Republican one.
