CBS News: Hunter Biden's former business partner never got a chance to go before a grand jury

An interesting report from Catherine Herridge and Graham Kates at CBS News though this seems to be part of a pre-existing pattern we already knew about. If you’ve been following this story for a while then you already know the name Tony Bobulinski. He’s a former business partner of Hunter Biden who came forward in October 2020 to confirm the authenticity of the emails found on Hunter’s laptop and to describe some of Hunter’s business dealings in detail. Bobulinski was not just a partner in the business, he was actually a recipient of some of the emails in question including arguably the most infamous one of all.

He confirms that he was one of the recipients of the May 13, 2017, e-mail published by The Post eight days ago. That e-mail, from another partner in the group, laid out cash and equity positions and mysteriously included a 10 percent set-aside for “the big guy.”

Other emails involving Bobulinski seemed to indicate that getting Joe Biden involved was part of the plan.

In April [2017] Bobulinski asked [James] Gilliar why Jim Biden was part of the discussion when they already had Hunter on board. “With H demons, could be good to have a back up, he strengthens our USP to Chinese as it looks like a truly family business, and I like the dude,” Gilliar explained. Fox News reports that “USP” could stand for “unique selling point” or possibly for “U.S. persons.” Whatever the case, the point is clearly that having two Bidens adds to the suggestion that the entire family is involved…

On May 11, Bobulinski texted Gilliar saying, “Man U are right let’s get the company set up, then tell H and family the high stakes and get Joe involved.”

There’s no clear indication from any of the texts presented in the Fox story that Joe Biden himself had agreed to anything in relation to this deal, but it seems clear the group is hoping to trade on his status and also hoping that they will be able to get him to participate in some way to make the deal happen.

Later in May, Gilliar texted Bobulinski a reminder: “Don’t mention Joe being involved, it’s only when u are face to face, I know u know that but they are paranoid.”

Today, CBS reports that despite Bobulinski’s close connections to Hunter, investigators never spoke to him.

A former business partner of Hunter and James Biden, who worked directly with them on a 2017 China energy deal, was never asked to testify to a Delaware grand jury investigating Hunter Biden, two sources familiar with the discussions tell CBS News.

Tony Bobulinski, the former business partner, was open to testifying, and his attorney reached out to the office of Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss. Weiss did not return their calls, the sources said. Weiss’ decision not to bring Bobulinski is the latest indication that prosecutors investigating Hunter Biden may have avoided investigating allegations about his father, President Joe Biden.

The detail about Bobulinski not being called before the grand jury is new but the general pattern is not. Last October, Bobulinski appeared on Tucker Carlson’s show and described a 5-hour interview he had with the FBI just prior to the 2020 election. But in the two years between that interview and his appearance on Carlson’s show he hadn’t been contacted by anyone.

“On the morning of October 23, the morning after the [presidential] debate, I spent five-plus hours sitting in a room with, at one point, I think as much as six federal agents, walking through all the facts of my knowledge of the Biden family, how I got involved in this, the trips around the world, CEFC, Chairman Ye, and stuff like that,” he said. He added, “I wish I had pictures of the faces of the two main agents that were interviewing me because I would say something and you could just see the shock in their face.”

Bobulinski was told their would be a follow-up interview with the person running the investigation, Tim Thibault. His attorneys did talk to Thibault who said they definitely wanted Bobulinski to return but he finished the story saying “I haven’t heard from them since.” In other words, two years had passed and investigators never got back to him.

So what CBS is reporting is in line with previous behavior and matches up with what a whistleblower claimed about the investigation being intentionally slow-walked to protect Hunter Biden. All of this obviously stinks to high heaven and the Bobulinski detail is one more bit of information that confirms this was not handled as if it were a normal case. Here’s the interview from last October.
