Female Detransitioner Sues Pediatric Academy

Another detransitioner who was abused by the medical industry as a child has come forward. And Isabelle Ayala isn’t just telling her story in an effort to help others. She is taking her doctors and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) to court for endorsing an “affirmative model” for diagnosing and treating pediatric gender dysphoria and subjecting her to medical procedures that they knew or should have known would lead to long-term harm. This is just one of multiple lawsuits currently being brought by detransitioners against a multi-billion dollar industry that pushes dangerous and unscientific practices on patients leading to irreversible damage. A 21-year-old female detransitioner who underwent hormone therapy as a teenager is suing the American Academy of Pediatrics for allegedly pushing youth gender transition and lying about the dangers of such medical interventions.

Isabelle Ayala is accusing the progressive professional medical association, infamous for endorsing so-called gender-affirming care for minors, of civil conspiracy, fraud, and medical malpractice, according to a lawsuit filed Monday and obtained by the Daily Wire. The AAP, the lawsuit claims, knowingly misled the public on youth gender transition by releasing and circulating a 2018 policy statement endorsing the “affirmative model” for gender dysphoria. The statement lacked sufficient evidence to back the safety and efficacy of the model.

Ayala’s story is a tragic but sadly all too common one these days. As a child she had been sexually assaulted by an adult. As a result, she suffered from a range of mental and emotional health issues including anxiety, depression, autism, ADHD, and PTSD. Her doctors ignored all of those issues and following the 2018 guidelines of the AAP, they immediately “affirmed” her claim of actually being a boy. This kicked off a series of treatments including puberty blockers, male hormones, and an evaluation for potential experimental surgeries.

When they first prescribed testosterone for her, Ayala’s mother actually tried to intervene and initially refused to provide consent for the prescription. But the doctors used the horrifying trick that so many of the people in this field do, telling the mother that the hormones were the only option available to prevent her daughter from committing suicide. Faced with such a bleak choice, she eventually consented. Six months later, despite taking the hormones (or perhaps because of them) the girl attempted suicide anyway. She eventually received appropriate counseling and detransitioned, but the damage to her body had already been done.

Other detransitioners have sued their doctors before, but Isabelle Ayala is the first one to sue the AAP. Both that group and the AMA very badly need to be held to account. They have both established extremely progressive committees to “study” transgender issues and issued supposed treatment models, particularly for children. This “affirmative model” moves straight to the transition treadmill as soon as a child expresses any sort of gender confusion rather than relying on psychological counseling designed to nudge the patient back toward reality.

The damage has been painfully obvious. Many detransitioned girls are growing up to be women who will never be able to have children, won’t be able to breastfeed, and will never have normal body hair growth. Some will deal with ongoing hormonal dysfunction for the rest of their lives. The fact that this continues to happen in some places is a travesty. If consenting adults want to undergo these “treatments” and can’t be convinced to seek appropriate help elsewhere, that’s up to them. But doing this to children is a monstrosity. Perhaps the only way to get the AAP and the AMA to listen to reason is to hit them in the wallet good and hard. Best of luck to Ms. Ayala in her efforts.
