The vast majority of the legacy media continues to berate the country, insisting that everyone needs to embrace the idea of “gender transition care” for children, frequently involving the use of unnatural hormones, puberty blockers, and even surgery. Anyone failing to sing the praises of The Narrative is labeled a “transphobe” or whatever the favorite phobia of the week happens to be. But a new survey from Rasmussen Reports confirms that people are not buying into the madness and most Americans still have enough common sense to reject this craze. Barely a third of voters are in favor of such pediatric procedures. And perhaps most surprisingly, the people most likely to oppose these procedures for children are young adults. (New American)
A Rasmussen poll conducted in February found that 58 percent of likely voters support state bans on so-called gender transition surgery for children. Forty-six percent of those likely voters were strongly in favor of such bans, with just 34 percent opposed.
Only eight percent were uncertain about such bans.
When asked about banning the less-intrusive but still dangerous practice of using hormone replacement therapy on minors, 53 percent of likely voters favored such bans, with 39 percent strongly backing bans against hormone therapy for children. Thirty-five percent of respondents disapproved of bans against hormone replacement therapy for children.
The survey was conducted in response to a number of states passing or currently considering bans on such procedures for minors. The party-line breakdown was probably what you would expect. Republicans were the most likely (72%) to favor bans on sex-change surgery to protect children, followed by independent voters at 61%. But even 45% of Democrats support these bans. This should tell you how badly the media is reading the room on this issue and why officials like Ron DeSantis who enact such bans are polling quite well.
The public also supports bans on hormone “therapy” for gender confusion, though at slightly lower levels. 63% of Republicans and 54% of independents are in favor of bans on those treatments.
The linked report from New American expresses some dismay at the number of voters who actually oppose such bans and support these irreversible procedures being performed on children. They further wonder if the numbers will shift in the other direction sooner or later. I take the opposite position. I believe many of the supporters of these treatments for children have simply not been keeping up with the news closely enough. The more stories we hear from detransitioning young adults who come out and tell their stories, the more likely it is that sensible people will come to understand the permanent harm being done to these children. If anything, I would expect to see support for these bans actually rise in the coming months and years.
This brief segment from The Absolute Truth With Emerald Robinson features an analysis of the poll and is well worth a look.
