Californians finally striking back against Democrats who keep raising their taxes

Could it possibly be true? Is there some limit to the amount of progressive government “help” that finally crosses the threshold of what the residents of California are willing to tolerate? It may be too soon to get your hopes up just yet, but the Daily Caller is reporting that out in the Golden State, yet another set of crippling gasoline taxes and license fees were passed recently and the peasants seem to be revolting. There are signatures being gathered for a recall of one of the Democrats who helped enact the measure and a separate initiative, if successful, would repeal the new taxes.

Californians are pushing back against the Democratic lawmakers who passed the largest gas tax in the state’s history last month.

Citizens have signed signatures for a recall effort against Democratic state Sen. Josh Newman for his vote in favor of for the Road Repair and Accountability Act, and another lawmaker is moving forward on an initiative to repeal the unpopular gas tax.

The law, passed April 6, imposes a 12 cents a gallon hike on citizens and raises the tax on diesel fuel by 20 cents a gallon. It also implements an additional charge to annual vehicle license fees ranging from $25 to $175 depending on the car’s value.

The article quotes California talk radio personality Ken Chiampou as saying that recalling one of the Democrats was, “the only thing that would work,” and that you need to take one of their team members out (politically). The other ballot initiative I mentioned above which would repeal the revenue package was introduced by one of the GOP members of the state assembly. Just to pour a little more salt in the wound, he framed his reason for doing so around previous statements made by the state’s Democratic Governor, Jerry Brown.

Chiampou’s pursuit of Newman comes after California Republican Assemblyman Travis Allen filed a ballot initiative May 8 to repeal the $52 billion gas tax.

“In 2010, Jerry Brown said, ‘there should be no tax increases without a vote of the people.’ Repealing the gas tax will simply help him keep his promise to California voters,” Allen said in a press statement announcing the initiative.

There’s an old saying about adding straws to the back of a camel until it finally breaks. When it comes to taxes and fees, the residents of California have been seeing straws heaped upon them for generations now, but it just may be possible that the limit has been reached. I’m not saying that we should expect to see a constitutional carry law passing there any time soon or a sudden surge in support for Trump’s border wall, but at least it’s a start. Having the voters recall a single Democrat and repeal a tax package which was passed by their representatives should send shock waves through the California Democratic Party. Once the word gets around that the peasants are no longer satisfied with being kicked in the teeth, there might actually be a shred of accountability coming into play.

Or at least we can dream, right?
