DNC Elects Two AWFLs to Top Positions

The Democratic Party did not, in fact, literally elect two AWFLs to lead their party.

It just seems they did because both Ken Martin and David Hogg embody the values that most characterize the AWFLs.

Ironically, these two white men, who, I believe, are both heterosexual, have been chosen to lead a party that embraces all the worst DEI excesses you can think of.

Martin, who has been Chair of the Democrat-Farmer-Labor Party in Minnesota under Tim Walz, has led the party to become one of the wokest in the nation. Hogg, as you all know, is the hypermasculine leader of the anti-gun movement, who embraces every single woke bit of wisdom.

Hogg ran on a platform of bringing young people--especially young men--back to the Party.

Jonathan Chait neatly summarized the DNC committee meeting and the election of Martin and Hogg this way: the DNC just showed why they lost the 2024 election.

The most sadly revealing outcome of the meeting may be the elevation of David Hogg as vice chair. Hogg, a 24-year-old activist, rose to prominence as a survivor of the Parkland, Florida, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting, and then quickly assimilated the full range of progressive stances—defund ICE, abolish the police, etc.—into his heavily online persona. And despite the horrific experience he endured, he does not seem to be notably wise beyond his years. After the far-right activist and pillow peddler Mike Lindell gained prominence as an election denier, I joked online that progressives needed their own pillow company. (The joke, of course, is that there is obviously no need for your pillow company to endorse your political views.) The next month, Hogg went ahead and turned this joke into reality, founding Good Pillow before resigning a few months later.

Hogg’s takeaway from the 2024 presidential race is that Democrats lost because they failed to rally the youth vote with a rousing message on guns, climate, and other issues favored by progressive activists. Polling, in fact, showed that young voters had similar issue priorities as older voters, but Hogg’s elevation was a tribute to the wish masquerading as calculation that Democrats can gain vote share without compromising with the electorate.

Some Democrats observed the events of the weekend with wry fatalism. At one point, a protester in a Sunrise Movement T-shirt interrupted by shouting, “I am terrified!”

She was not alone.

Ed rightly pointed out that the Democratic Party is run like the Human Relations Department in any big woke corporation, although those very same corporations are starting to give up on the entire enterprise of DEI because it has turned out to be a disaster.

The Democratic Party learned nothing from the 2024 election. Tim Walz was the worst pick for Vice President in my memory, and the DNC's response to the nation rejecting him and Kamala Harris was to elect the DFL Chair under Walz to lead the national party.

As awful as the AWFLs are, they somehow managed to pick the two whitest guys on the planet (in the all-important beta category) to run and represent their party.

Maybe that is the one concession the Democrats are making to the anti-DEI backlash--electing white men as the face of the party, despite the white men feeling nothing but guilt for their skin color and genitalia.

The irony is that Americans don't care about those uninteresting facts about them. Just that their values are the antithesis of our own.
