ACLU upset that child rapist/murderer executed as a man

The ACLU sure has its priorities straight.

Most people who know of the case of Duane Owen, who was executed in Florida for a 1984 rape and two murders yesterday in Florida, wonder why it took so long to off the evil dude. It’s 2023, for God’s sake. How long do you wait before taking out the trash?

Those rubes are missing the big story by focusing on his crimes and the nearly 40 years of extra life granted to him by a justice system that too often coddles the worst among us.

The ACLU, on the other hand, understands what is more important: Duane was a woman living in a man’s body, and simply needed to get some gender-affirming care to become a better person.

Sure, Owen was not a nice man, but perhaps he would have been a lovely woman.

Owen was found guilty in the brutal killings of a 14-year old babysitter, Karen Slattery of Boynton Beach, and a 38-year-old executive secretary and single mother of two, Georgianna Worden, of Boca Raton.

Slattery, babysitting a 7-year-old and a 3-year-old at a house in Delray Beach, was stabbed 18 times and raped on March 24, 1984. About two months later, on May 29, Owen raped and bludgeoned Worden to death with a hammer.

Owen, convicted and sentenced to death in both murders, was granted a new trial in the Slattery killing when he claimed he was looking for hormones so he could become a woman. A second jury again convicted him and sentenced him to death.

Slattery’s younger sister, who was 10 at the time of her murder, said the state of Florida took far too long to carry out Owen’s sentence.

“Thirty-nine in this process is finally over,” Debbi Johnson, now a deputy sheriff in Monroe County, read from a prepared statement. “March 24, 1984, Owen attempted to write the final chapter in Karen’s book or so he thought. Karen lives on in her community, her friends, her family and, most importantly, her legacy. Today, June 15, 2023, at 6:14 p.m., the state of Florida actually wrote the final chapter of Karen’s book. The Slattery family may now close Karen’s book, put it on a shelf and move forward.”

He raped and killed women because he wanted to become a woman.

He really went with that, and actually got a new trial based upon that ridiculous argument. And the ACLU thinks that this evil guy has a point.

Apparently, the ACLU is fully committed to the intersectional version of justice where people higher up the ladder of oppression can literally do anything to those on lower rungs, including raping and murdering them.

I am not exactly an Old Testament kind of guy when it comes to punishment for crimes–I’d like to think that at some point in the future, we can actually find a way to rehabilitate at least some criminals, although for the life of me, I haven’t seen a lot of evidence that we know how to do that. Until we do then prisons seem like a way to protect society from predators.

But even ol’ softy me can understand that serial rapists and murderers are better candidates for target practice than for “gender-affirming” medical treatments. A good firing squad appeals to me. The electric chair seems a bit gruesome. I’d even settle for importing some Canadian doctors to dispatch the evildoers, if that is the only way we can get the people who claim that lethal injection is cruel and unusual to approve a method of disposing of these despicable criminals.

(Ever notice how the same people who argue that lethal injection is cruel and unusual also often support euthanasia as compassionate?)

That the ACLU honestly thinks they are furthering the cause of compassion for transgender people by decrying the state’s failure to provide hormones and surgery to one of the vilest people on Earth is beyond me, but apparently they do.

No doubt they think that this is a dunk on cruel Governor Ron DeSantis, who so hates trans people that he will even execute them!
