Is POTATUS not sending reps to strike talks the new "engaged" like his 80 is the new 40?

ASKING FOR A FRIEND THE COUNTRY

Gotta admit – old Joe’s sunny optimism the other day was misplaced.

Still, the Biden administration tried to keep a cool lid on things, praising the work ethic and dedication to the bargaining table of the parties involved…

…even while Biden himself stuck it to the automakers in a union cheerleading propaganda piece from the White House.

President Biden on Friday delivered brief remarks on the United Auto Workers strike that began Thursday night, accusing auto companies of refusing to share their profits with workers.

In a televised statement, Biden said the Big Three automakers were making “record profits” that “have not been shared fairly, in my view, with workers.”

“No one wants a strike,” Biden said. “But I respect workers’ right to use their options under the collective bargaining system. Autoworkers sacrificed so much to keep the industry alive and strong, especially through the economic crisis and the pandemic. Workers deserve a fair share of the benefits they helped create for an enterprise.”

The president spoke for fewer than five minutes and did not take questions from the press. He called for the strike to be resolved with “record contracts” for UAW workers to match “record corporate profits.”

And sent two of his “top” aides to Detroit.

President Joe Biden on Friday dispatched two of his top aides to Detroit to help resolve the strike by unionized autoworkers, expressing sympathy for the union by suggesting that the Big 3 automakers should share their “record profits.”

That little expenditure of effort on the administration’s part went all for naught, because out they went, in spite of those multiple marathon rounds of intensive negotiations, and ending with some bitter words from United Auto Workers president Shawn Fein.

Every Democrat who wants some socialist cred has made the pilgrimage to Detroit or a UAW outpost near them, to talk some “greed” smack and kiss babies.

Or just to tal…okay. I don’t know what the hell this is, but the Senate Bowling Team captain is there.

Weirdly, though, upon further reflection, you know who’s NOT there?

The two “top” aides POTATUS was sending out to solve this crisis just last week.

They never left.

They’ll have a Zoom session – only White House types and UAW, automakers are noticeably absent from the statement – if someone feels they need one. No pressure.

The Biden administration is no longer sending two key officials to Detroit this week to potentially help broker a deal between striking autoworkers and the Big Three car companies, a White House official told NBC News.

President Joe Biden last week said he would dispatch White House senior advisor Gene Sperling and acting Labor Secretary Julie Su to support discussions between the companies and the United Auto Workers union.

But the White House and the UAW union mutually agreed it would be better to speak virtually via Zoom, the official said Tuesday.

Vurt dah furk is up with that?!

It seems a lot of it has to do with Fain basically telling Biden to blow it Outback…

…Biden largely sided with the striking autoworkers in an address on Friday. The president called on Ford, General Motors and Stellantis to share record profits with their workers.

Despite that, Biden has received a relatively cold reception from the UAW.

The union’s president, Shawn Fain, told MSNBC on Monday that he does not see a major role for the White House in resolving the dispute.

… and schmaybe Biden has decided to let the union smack-talker duke things out with the D-3 on his own.

The economics are not in the union’s favor, whatever the bluster. And everything Biden touches turns to poo.

Remember, the CPI doesn’t even come close to capturing the inflation that people experience in their daily lives. I think these auto workers have lost a lot of purchasing power over the last few years, and they’re trying to catch up. But unfortunately, when you combine what they’re doing with what the Biden administration is doing, they’re not only going to get killed by Biden’s inflation tax, but Biden is helping to undermine the productivity of their employers to a point where a lot of these auto workers are going to be out of jobs. If they’re having a hard time now, it’s to be a lot worse when they’re unemployed.”

Peter said that more than a decade of zero percent interest rates skewed the labor market.

A lot of these companies were able to cave into the demands of workers because they had such cheap financing. So, their labor costs were going up, but their debt service costs were low. Well, now the interest rates are surging. Companies don’t have that leeway.”

And it’s not interest rates. Other production costs are skyrocketing. Peter specifically noted the rising price of oil and fuel. Oil is up 8% just in September.

Costs are going way up for these companies and for their customers. What’s ultimately going to happen is there’s going to be a big decline in auto sales because people can’t afford to buy. And to the extent that they do buy, they may buy more imports because those companies are more competitive. And so, American jobs get lost.”

…The Biden administration has indicated that it might help the US automakers handle the increased costs. Dan pointed out the irony of the government that created inflation taking American tax money to bail out companies hurt by that inflation.

Holy smokes, that’s all we need – the Biden administration stepping in to pay for the UAW contracts.

HOLY SMOKES

Talk about “BUY American”!

Biden attempts to pull this off, we’ll be basically nationalizing every industry from this point on and have Democrats running the place until we don’t have a country left to run.
