Chicago: How about a little gang war to liven up your summer?

There was an internal Chicago Police Department memo released last week, and it sounds like those cops just might know their neighborhoods.

After three men were shot while standing on an Uptown sidewalk Tuesday afternoon, Chicago police dispatchers began warning cops on the North Side about four areas with a “strong possibility of retaliatory shootings.”

The alert noted that investigators had not yet determined the gang affiliations, if any, of the three men who were shot yesterday. But back-and-forth retaliatory shootings have been happening between two street gangs since May 23, dispatchers advised.

The conflict involves the Wicked City faction of the Black P Stones street gang to the south and the Gangster Disciples to the north.

This new cycle of violence began on May 23 with the shooting of a 22-year-old man in the 4500 block of North Magnolia, according to the bulletin. A gunman literally fell out of a moving SUV as he shot at the victim around 3:30 p.m., said an officer who reviewed surveillance video of the incident.

Retaliation came almost immediately.

Within 20 minutes, someone else was killed, and on it went.

Police have identified four “hot zones” and the action with retaliatory hits seems to be continuing non-stop.

There are increasing indications that an internal Chicago Police Department warning was right about four North Side areas with a “strong possibility of retaliatory shootings.”

A drive-by shooting just outside one of the zones that left a man dead and a woman injured on Sunday morning was targeted, a local alderman said. Hours later, gunmen in two cars chased after another driver, firing shots at him until he crashed, uninjured, into an Edgewater restaurant. The chase began smack in the middle of one of the areas CPD flagged for retaliation.

Police were told to expect retaliation in two parts of Uptown, a section of Edgewater, and part of Rogers Park as a long-running feud heats up between the Wicked City faction of the Black P Stones street gang to the south and the Gangster Disciples to the north.

The warnings are going out for everyone.

Just another weekend in the city.

It’s hot, it’s summer, they’re bored, so the youths are out in force, as you’d expect. They swarmed the flagship Target store downtown, looted others, and took over the Roosevelt Bridge, while CPD officers stood by.

I guess some of them them got frustrated with the lack of action there, and headed over to the Chicago Fire Department Academy. Perhaps enough windows wouldn’t break. Giving up, they went on their destructive way.

The latest thing is to call it a “teen trend.” I’m assuming that’s more of Mayor Brandon Johnson’s kinder, gentler approach to the “stupid mistakes” one makes as a “youth.”

Dozens arrested in latest downtown youth disturbance

Chicago police officers arrested 40 people in the South Loop late Sunday after hundreds took part in the latest “teen trend” gathering in the city’s downtown area.

The large group gathered near West Roosevelt Road and South Canal Street and mobbed a nearby convenience store as a series of fights broke out, officials said. Officers started to make arrests around 8 p.m., police said, after those in the group refused orders to leave the area.

Police records show that CPD Deputy Chief Jon Hein declared a mass arrest situation at 9:22 p.m.

These kids really are “young,” too. When the heck are these community leaders going to start pointing fingers at parents?

…Of those arrested, 30 were juveniles between 12 to 17 years old, according to CPD. Those arrestees were each charged with reckless conduct, a misdemeanor.

Seven other teens, boys and girls ranging in age from 14 to 17, were arrested and face charges including unlawful use of a weapon, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct, obstructing identification and resisting arrest, according to CPD.

“Youths.”

You’d be shocked to know there were several “illegally possessed guns” confiscated from the arrested miscreants at the same time. Quelle surprise, no?

In any event, that’s the update for this past weekend in Mayor Johnson’s Chicago.

Oh, before I forget. If you’ve been there, and your cell phone has been stolen?

Check the police station nearest to where you last remember having it.

There’s a good bet it might be there.

…In a strange coincidence, Blanco Blanco was arrested about two hours after another man was arrested in the 12th District station lobby for allegedly stealing phones from the resident migrants.

Two migrants saw 64-year-old Alan Roberson enter the station at 1453 South Blue Island earlier in the day and watched as he stole two phones that other migrants had left charging in the lobby, a Chicago police report said.

For sure. Closest cop shop would probably be one of the first places I’d look.
