North Dakota murder case proves the Left feels their politics gives them a license to kill

It seems one person took Joe Biden’s anti-MAGA speech, which he delivered on the steps of Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, literally.

The September 3 speech, which reeked of Nazi overtones, declared that MAGA Republicans were a clear and present danger and that no national unity could be achieved until they’re dealt with—which the president didn’t get into specifics. He did say he would act, but again—he left that policy up to interpretation.

Shannon Brandt, 41, seems to have taken Biden’s orders and decided to kill a local political rival in a sophomoric and heinous retread of the duel between Hamilton and Burr. At least in that historical situation, we have documented evidence of a long-standing feud between the two men.

We can gather from initial reports that Brant might have had one little dispute with his victim, Cayler Ellingson, 18, which led to murder. On September 18, Brandt ran down and killed Ellingson in McHenry, North Dakota. He was also allegedly drunk at the time of the assault. Brandt called the police on himself and admitted to killing the teenager, claiming he was a Republican extremist.

Charged with vehicular manslaughter and fleeing the scene of a hit-and-run, Brandt’s arraignment could only be described as stoic and wholly detached from reality. He was confused about why he was held on a $50,000 bond, claiming he was not a flight risk. He had a job and a family that he cared about, seemingly unaware that he had shattered another over the most puerile reason: a political dispute. From the brief clip, it also seems as if he feels he did nothing wrong. As my Townhall colleague Mia wrote, he was released two days later, having made bail.

Mr. Brandt saw a Republican and killed him—this is not just murder, but an act of domestic terrorism. The liberal media ad nauseam paints a false picture of violent Republicans urging for civil war and conflict when it’s the left killing people. This story will most likely meet a Jeffrey Epstein-like ending since a) it doesn’t fit the liberal narrative, and b) it occurred in North Dakota.

Brandt’s reaction is what got me. The inability to comprehend that you belong in jail once you’ve committed a homicide. We all know that the left’s moral superiority complex busts at the seams within the deep-blue enclaves of America’s cities, coastal lines, and college campuses. That doesn’t mean it cannot spread into the heartland, where this individual believes he has immunity from murder charges due to his political leanings. It seems for some liberals, like Brandt, that sense of entitlement percolated into such matters of life and death.

He was right politically, which granted a shield to commit self-righteous homicide in the name of liberalism. That’s a sign of mental illness—nothing more.

What were these two feuding about that led to a man twice the age of the victim killing him?
