Grayson: Democrats will crawl over hot coals naked to vote for me

I remind you once again that a Washington Post thumb-sucking piece about civility in 2009 referred to Alan Grayson as “a Harvard graduate with a soft voice, [who] had decided to fight invective with invective.” He was forced, you see, by the Tea Party to become a raving looney with a poster board in the well of the House.

Since then, this soft-spoken intellectual nobly fighting the hordes of the right has been through some stuff. He has been in and out of Congress. He has been bilked out of millions of dollars, twice. He has been discovered harboring two off-shore hedge funds, presumably to keep his hypocrisy sheltered from the hefty taxes it might incur. He has been accused of domestic abuse by his estranged wife, and though no charges were filed, she was granted a restraining order against him. He has been spurned by the DSCC in his quest to take his nuanced, intellectual, ahem, soft-spokenness to the upper chamber of Congress by running for Sen. Marco Rubio’s seat once he’s vacates it.

Through it all, Grayson has remained characteristically level-headed, and above all, soft-spoken. This week is no exception, as he offers his pitch to liberal Democrats hoping to lead him to an upset victory of more moderate, establishment candidate Patrick Murphy in a Florida primary.

Grayson believes he would make a better candidate for the Democratic party than Congressman Patrick Murphy, telling NBC News that first off, he has better name recognition, and secondly, Murphy used to be a Republican and some Democrats may stay at home if he’s the candidate.

And Grayson is so amazingly confident that he even said, “Frankly, one reason why Democrats are willing to crawl over hot coals naked to vote for me is because I’m willing to tell the truth.”

More from Grayson, here.

Bring on the Democratic Todd Akin (or shall we update it to Donald Trump?) of 2016. There is no chance he’ll become as “emblematic” as every Republican rant and mistake becomes in the hands of the media, but at least he’ll give them a chance to hold the rest of the party accountable for the extreme views of its base. If you’re ever looking for loopy Democrats, media, look no further.
