Lovely: Street artists fight Trump H'wood star defacing with dozens of duplicates

If you can’t beat them, fake ’em.

An anonymous conservative street artist in Hollywood, upset over the repeated destruction of Donald Trump’s sidewalk star on the Walk of Fame, has come up with a solution. He and a team spent about $1,000 to make vinyl reproductions of the iconic sidewalk symbol.

Overnight Wednesday, the group in what they call The Faction stuck the very real lookalikes on several dozen blank sidewalk spaces in the tourist-heavy Hollywood district.

Good luck smashing every one of those with a pick-ax, as protesters have done to the real Trump star a few times already.

The artist told The Hollywood Reporter he was bothered by the destructions of the president’s star, awarded for his successful NBC show “The Apprentice,” by Trump haters and the recent unanimous vote by the West Hollywood City Council to remove the genuine Trump star altogether.

He was proud of his street work. “They could last there for 10 years,” said the artist.

The Hollywood Walk of Fame currently has 2,982 stars in place honoring movie, radio and TV celebrities all the way back to silent movie days.

The Los Angeles Times has posted a remarkably entertaining and searchable database of every sidewalk star including their life stories (and directions to each star’s location).

They range from crime-fighting hero dog Rin Tin Tin and Lassie, Greer Garson and Bing Crosby to Bob Hope, Janet Leigh, who was murdered in “Psycho,” Citizen Kane’s Orson Welles and Johnny Carson.

Thursday morning a Hollywood janitorial crew, heads diligently down, was walking the blocks of celebrity sidewalks to find and scrape off every fake Donald Trump star it could find. At last report, they’d found about 50.

But the artist and his co-conspirators were not discouraged:

Rip up the president’s Walk of Fame star or try to have it removed — like you’re the mayor of West Hollywood or something — and 30 more will pop up.

This is not fake news.
