Monday afternoon the Justice Department notified Congress that they will do their best to expedite the process of evaluating the new trove of emails discovered on Anthony Weiner and Huma Abedein’s shared device.
Assistant Attorney General Peter Kadzik sent letters to the Hill Monday after outraged Democratic lawmakers demanded an explanation for FBI Director James Comey’s letter to Congress Friday advising that investigators handling the Clinton email probe were preparing to examine new evidence that emerged in an unrelated investigation.
“We assure you that the Department will continue to work closely with the FBI and together, dedicate all necessary resource and take appropriate steps as expeditiously as possible,” Kadzik wrote.
After the letter was made public on Twitter, the name “Peter Kadzik” starting ringing a familiar bell with many bloggers.

After a quick search of their own memory banks and the recent dump of John Podesta emails on WikiLeaks, the results started pouring in:
Oh yes. Recall our post from last week, “Clinton Campaign Chair Had Dinner With Top DOJ Official One Day After Hillary’s Benghazi Hearing” in which we reported that John Podesta had dinner with one of the highest ranked DOJ officials the very day after Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi testimony?
It was Peter Kadzik.
The day after Hillary Clinton testified in front of the House Select Committee on Benghazi last October, John Podesta, Hillary’s campaign chairman met for dinner with a small group of well-connected friends, including Peter Kadzik, who is currently a top official at the US Justice Department serving as Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs. The post-Benghazi dinner was attended by Podesta, Kadzik, superlobbyist Vincent Roberti and other well-placed Beltway fixtures. The first mention of personal contact between Podesta and Kadzik in the Wikileaks dump is in an Oct. 23, 2015 email sent out by Vincent Roberti, a lobbyist who is close to Podesta and his superlobbyist brother, Tony Podesta. In it, Roberti refers to a dinner reservation at Posto, a Washington D.C. restaurant. The dinner was set for 7:30 that evening, just one day after Clinton gave 11 hours of testimony to the Benghazi Committee.
Podesta and Kadzik met several months later for dinner at Podesta’s home, another email shows. Another email sent on May 5, 2015, Kadzik’s son asked Podesta for a job on the Clinton campaign.
Podesta and Kadzik, the assistant attorney general for legislative affairs, were in frequent contact, other emails show. In one email from January, Kadzik and Podesta, who were classmates at Georgetown Law School in the 1970s, discussed plans to celebrate Podesta’s birthday. And in another sent last May, Kadzik’s son emailed Podesta asking for a job on the Clinton campaign.
Podesta heaped praise on Kadzik in a September 2008 email to the late Obama campaign operative Cassandra Butts, who, emails indicate, was searching for a lawyer to help vet potential staffers or appointees.
Podesta led the Obama transition team, and Butts served as its general counsel.
Kadzik, Podesta wrote, was “willing to help. Fantastic lawyer. Kept me out of jail. … Think he would be an excellent vet lead.”
Kadzik represented Podesta when, as the Clinton White House’s deputy chief of staff, he testified before independent counsel Ken Starr’s grand jury in 1998.
He was also central to a scandal over the pardon of Marc Rich, a serial tax cheat who fled the United States before being pardoned by outgoing President Bill Clinton.
Rich’s ex-wife had previously donated $450,000 to the Clinton Library and more than $1 million to various Democratic political campaigns.
In summary: The Justice Department official overseeing the latest email investigation of Hillary Clinton’s unauthorized use of a non-secure, non-governmental email server for her work-related correspondence as Secretary of State once represented Campaign Chair John Podesta during the Clinton impeachment proceedings. He was recommended for his current job by that same Podesta during the latter’s stint in the Obama Administration. He dined privately with Podesta during the Hillary Clinton’s Benghazi testimony. His son asked Podesta for a job on the Clinton campaign. And he was a central figure in the cash-for-pardon Marc Rich scandal in the waning days of the Clinton Administration.
At this point, is there anyone working at the Justice Department who hasn’t been tainted by the stench of Clinton corruption?
