DePaul University in Chicago has banned an “Unborn Lives Matter” poster from its campus due to concerns that it will antagonize the “Black Lives Matter” movement.

According to the Washington Times, the College Republicans on campus wanted to distribute and display the posters as an obvious pro-life message but DePaul President Father Dennis Holtschneider intervened.

His letter to the College Republicans suggested that the “Unborn Lives Matter” message was steeped in bigotry:

“By our nature, we are committed to developing arguments and exploring important issues that can be steeped in controversy and, oftentimes, emotion. Yet there will be times when some forms of speech challenge our grounding in Catholic and Vincentian values. When that happens, you will see us refuse to allow members of our community be subjected to bigotry that occurs under the cover of free speech.”

St. Vincent DePaul is the patron saint of charitable works and one would assume he would fully embrace the idea that all lives, especially the unborn, do in fact matter here on earth as well as in heaven. However, I think it’s fair to say that Father Holtschneider is making a false hierarchical ranking of moral priorities by putting the sensitivities and feelings of one segment of his flock higher than the effort to protect the very lives of a segment that can not yet speak for themselves.

It certainly gives one pause before that hefty tuition check is filled out, doesn’t it?
