Obama is 'worried about the Republican Party' (you know, his 'enemies')

President Barack Obama will appear Thursday night on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. The segment was pre-taped Wednesday and according to a transcript released by NBC, he weighed on the current state of the presidential race and expressed concern for the Republican Party: (Variety)

The truth is I am actually worried about the Republican Party. This country works when you have two parties that are serious and trying to solve problems. And they’ve got philosophical differences and they have fierce debates and they argue and they contest elections. But at the end of the day, what you want is a healthy two party system… You want the Republican nominee to be somebody who could do the job if they win.

So I am actually not enjoying, and I haven’t been enjoying over the last seven years, watching some of the things that have happened in the Republican Party because there’s some good people in the Republican Party.

But what’s happened in that party culminating in this current nomination, I think is not actually good for the country as a whole. It’s not something Democrats should wish for.  And my hope is, is that maybe once you get through this cycle, there’s some corrective action and they get back to being a center right party.

The statement came after an exchange with Fallon where the host asked Obama if he thought the Republicans were happy with Trump as their nominee.  Obama joked, “We are,” prompting the audience to burst into laughter and applause.

Isn’t nice to know the president hasn’t been enjoying what he’s seen from the Republican Party over past seven years?  Interesting statement considering he has spent the past seven years demonizing Republicans in the most vicious and vitriolic way possible.

His good friends, the Republicans, whom he once referred to as “enemies” when speaking to a Latino audience on Univision:

“If Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, ‘We’re gonna punish our enemies and we’re gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us,’ if they don’t see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it’s gonna be harder and that’s why I think it’s so important that people focus on voting on November 2.”

Or what about the time he accused his political opponents of being racist?

Or when he compared Republicans to the hard-line, terrorist regime in Iran?

Or when he and his colleagues in the Democratic Party referred to their “friends” in the Republican Party as “arsonists” or “hostage takers” or “extortionists” or “terrorists” or “saboteurs” or… well you get the picture.

But it’s good to know that Obama the Statesman is worried about the Republican Party.
