President Obama hijacked the Rutgers graduation ceremonies to attack GOP presumptive nominee Donald Trump.

Here’s how Fox News summarized a major portion of the speech which specifically targeted Trump’s promise to properly enforce America’s border and immigration policies which have been ignored by President Obama:

Looking out at a sea of red and black gowns, Obama told the roughly 12,000 graduating students that the pace of change on the planet is accelerating, not subsiding, and that recent history had proved that the toughest challenges cannot be solved in isolation.

“A wall won’t stop that,” Obama said, bringing to mind Trump’s call for building a border wall between the U.S. and Mexico. “The point is, to help ourselves, we’ve got to help others — not pull up the drawbridge and try to keep the world out.”

Obama went on to suggest that Republicans, in general, lacked facts, reason, logic or a basic understanding of science:

“Facts, evidence, reason, logic, an understanding of science: These are good things. These are qualities you want in people making policy. … That might seem obvious. … We traditionally have valued those things, but if you’re listening to today’s political debate, you might wonder where this strain of anti-intellectualism came from.”

It’s pretty rich to hear a man who supports abortion on demand suggest his opponents lack “an understanding of science.” anyone who has seen an ultrasound of an unborn child or seen a baby born prematurely after only 20 weeks of gestation knows very well that the radical, 1969 pro-abortion policy of the Democratic Party is the very definition of anti-science.

The Rutgers commencement address is an illustration of Obama’s fervent desire to enter the political fray and campaign on behalf of his party and candidate (whoever it might be.) It also telegraph’s how Obama will be used in the 2016 presidential election. He’ll be the defender of his legacy and policies and aggressively attack the Republicans and their nominee from the lofty pulpit of righteous outrage over any suggestion that his enlightened presidency might be reversed in any way.

Obama’s remarks are sure to get big play on cable news all day with pundits on both side of the political aisle reacting with praise or indignation, but lost in all of this noise will be the sad reality that these graduates, and their parents, had their joyous day hijacked by a political hack.

Imagine the time, effort and financial sacrifice involved in sending a child to Rutgers University. Imagine the studying the work and the focus required for that young 21-year-old to get that diploma. Imagine the joy and satisfaction as these families assemble to celebrate this glorious day. And then imagine a politician using the momentous occasion to score cheap political points.

In 2014, Rutgers graduates and professors pressured former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to withdraw from delivering the commencement address for that graduating class. Her political association with the Bush Administration was the reason faculty and student leaders objected to Rice delivering the speech.

The irony is, she would have kept her speech free of petty, controversial political rhetoric. She has class.
