Feel-Good Friday: The $5 Fast Food Meal Battles

Fast food giant Burger King is rolling back its price for a customer favorite. This puts Burger King in direct competition with McDonald's value meal special offer.

The price of fast food has increased as everything has in Biden's economy. To stay competitive and capture a portion of a shrinking market, some chains are offering bargain deals on a specific meal.

Burger King will offer a new $5 value meal deal. It is said to be better than the McDonald's version.

The last time Burger King offered this deal was in 2023 and only in some parts of the United States. The value meal deal is available throughout the United States this summer.

It's called the $5 Your Way Meal (sorry if the theme song is now an earworm) and the customer will have choices

Fast food fans choose one of three sandwiches - a Whopper Jr, a Bacon Cheeseburger, or Chicken Jr - plus four chicken nuggets, fries, and a soft drink.

The McDonald's value meal deal is very similar

Customers at the Golden Arches will get a either a McDouble or McChicken sandwich, fries, soft drink and four McNuggets.

Fast food is a luxury purchase for many families in Biden's America. More than 60% of Americans say they are living paycheck to paycheck. Many families who once relied on fast food as a quick and cheap meal during a hectic day are now unable to do so. You can argue that cooking at home is a healthier choice if non-processed food is served but that's not the point. Most of all, fast food is about convenience.

The fast food chains are struggling with falling sales. Prices have steadily increased for the past two years. The chains are doing what they can to attract customers. McDonald's missed profit estimates for the first time in two years in its latest quarter.

Burger King's deal seems to be a little better. McDonald's deal will only last for one month, beginning on June 25. Plus, the Burger King value meal deal will be available across the country. McDonald's offer is more limited.

But fast food fans say the BK deal has key advantages over its rival.

It lauches soon, runs for 'several' months rather than just one and is tipped to be at almost all outlets.

DailyMail.com reported last week that not every McDonald's restaurant will offer the deal - with those that have higher labor and rent costs opting out.

Labor costs play a role in price increases. I imagine that a special offer from McDonald's won't be available in California, for example, because of its higher minimum wage laws.

Customers are happy about the Burger King offer.

'Burger King is the king for a reason! Great that this runs most of the summer - and I heard it is in all its restaurants, not just some,' said fast food fan Andrea Smith.
