The top two issues for voters are the economy and illegal immigration. President Biden is underwater on those issues. 

Team Biden is in a panic over his poor polling on issues that voters care about. The Biden border crisis is so bad that Biden can no longer ignore it. In a desperate attempt to look like he is doing something, the Biden administration will announce a change in how asylum claims are handled.

Don't get excited. Nothing is really going to happen. The administration may announce the change as soon as today but it will take months for it to go into effect. The change doesn't amount to much. Biden is tinkering around the edges of the open southern border instead of implementing sweeping changes that he can do with the stroke of his pen.

Let's remember that on Biden's first day in office, Biden issued executive orders on illegal immigration and border security. He did away with all of the previous administration's policies and agreements to secure the southern border with Mexico. The results have been disastrous. 

The regulation would require migrants to be assessed at an initial asylum screening stage to see whether they should be barred from asylum and quickly deported, said the sources, who requested anonymity to discuss internal government planning. They added that the measure appeared limited in scope.

The migrants would be assessed for asylum bars related to criminality and security threats, two of the sources said.

The new regulation would improve efficiency by screening asylum seekers earlier in the process to determine whether they should be barred, one of the sources, a U.S. official, told Reuters. It would be issued as a proposed regulation and finalized at a later date, the official said.

It sounds good until it becomes clear that this only applies to those illegal aliens who may have criminal backgrounds. The problem is that only a small amount of illegal aliens will show that red flag as they claim asylum. The vetting process has gotten completely bogged down and many questionable illegal immigrants slip through the cracks. 

Note that this is being described as a "proposed regulation" and won't be finalized until a later date. When might that be? Biden is up for re-election and election day is six months out now. He doesn't have the luxury of time on his side. 

When (if) it does go into effect, the number of illegals it will affect is a drop in the bucket to the millions who have entered the United States since Biden took office. Most are being allowed to remain in the United States until their asylum claims go through the process. We are seeing an uptick in crime by illegal aliens in cities across the country. Each new murder, robbery, or trespassing charge brings the Biden border crisis into the spotlight. 

The claims for asylum by illegal aliens are a scam for most of them. Very few actually have a reason to claim asylum. The majority of them say they are crossing the border to find jobs, to make a better life for themselves. They feel entitled to the American Dream because Biden opened the border. He has deliberately instructed DHS to ignore immigration laws on the books. 

Democrats have been silent about the open border until recently. They can no longer remain silent if they are in re-election races in districts Trump won in 2020. Independent voters are moving away from Biden and this issue is one reason that is happening. This election cycle is about security. Suburban voters are waking up to the fact that every state is a border state now. 

The Biden administration and other Democrats are trying to flip the script and accuse Republicans of not being interested in border security. The legislation presented by the Senate to reform immigration laws was dead on arrival. It included allowing up to 5,000 illegal aliens per day to cross the border before the border would be shut down. That is unacceptable. 

Fifteen House Democrats sent a letter to Biden urging him to do what he can on the border, including issuing executive action. Sitting back and gaslighting about Republicans is not working. Voters are not stupid. 

Lawmakers from key battleground states including Arizona, Nevada, Michigan, and Pennsylvania signed the letter, calling on Biden to take executive action at the southern border.

In a letter obtained by NewsNation, 15 House Democrats wrote that Biden needs to “use all the tools” at his disposal to “restore order at the southern border and fix our broken immigration system.”

It was all fun and games until re-election time rolled around. I welcome any addition of border hawks but we have to be clear-eyed. This is happening through a political lens, not a humanitarian lens or a national security one. This resolution from Team Biden is raw political opportunism, nothing else, and it is a waste of time. Biden's campaign wants to be able to point to something - anything - to say that Biden is working on the border crisis he created. 

If an announcement is made, take it with a huge grain of salt. This administration is not serious about anything but destroying America as we know it.
