NYC Mayor Invites Governor Abbott to Sleep in a Migrant Shelter As Mexico Stops Caravan Heading to Texas

Texas Governor Greg Abbott was in New York City to attend a Republican fundraising gala on Thursday. NYC Mayor Eric Adams welcomed him to the city with some snark.

Asked about his visit by a reporter, Adams said that the governor was welcome to sleep in a shelter for illegal aliens. He suggested Abbott stay at one of the many Humanitarian Emergency Response and Relief Centers, or HERRCs.

“I’m going to offer him a stay in one of the HERRCs, so he can see what he has created and understand how we are treating people with the dignity and respect that he should have shown,” Adams said during a news conference in City Hall.

“I’m not quite sure why he’s here and what he’s doing while here,” the mayor continued. “But he’s going to see how you can manage the crisis with coordination.”

It was a criticism of Abbott for sending migrant buses to New York City, a sanctuary city. Abbott has sent illegal aliens to sanctuary cities to relieve overcrowding in Texas caused by the Biden border crisis. The buses arrive in sanctuary cities and receive attention, which is the point. They have forced the media to cover the ongoing crisis.

"We were sending them only to Washington, D.C., and quite literally out of nowhere, Mayor Adams starts criticizing me for sending them to New York City," Abbott said. "So after a while, I figured, gosh, if I'm gonna get the criticism, I'm gonna get the credit."

Numbers released by Texas officials in March show that Texas has transported more than 105,000 illegal aliens to sanctuary cities since 2022.

It is political hyperbole for Adams to accuse Abbott of creating his city's problem with illegal aliens. Abbott noted during an interview on Fox News Channel Thursday that 87% of illegal aliens sent to NYC are sent by DHS, not Texas.

That is the inconvenient truth for mayors of sanctuary cities who criticize the influx of migrant buses - the Biden administration is moving illegals around the country. Every state is a border state in Biden's America. The blame for all the consequences of the open southern border is on Joe Biden.

Mayors who claimed to be sanctuary cities suddenly didn't want to act like sanctuary cities once buses began to show up. Funny how that happens.

An interesting twist to the border crisis was reported on Thursday. Mexico may be helping to stop a caravan of migrants heading to the El Paso area in Texas. It is being reported that hundreds of federal, state, and local Mexican law enforcement have arrived on the border near El Paso to stop the caravan with an estimated 2,000 participants from reaching the border.

Mexican officials made a media event of it. They put federal immigration agents and other law enforcement officers in front of cameras this week in Juarez, a city just south of El Paso. The Mexican government is attempting to show its cooperation with the Biden administration to do its part in securing the border.

It is reported that hundreds of Mexican law enforcement officers are surging into the area. Two hundred National Migration Institute (INM) agents have been activated to stop the caravan, named the Way of the Cross caravan. It left Chiapas, Mexico last week and is now approaching the U.S. border.

About 1,000 migrants have already reached Chihuahua City. That is a few days' walk or a few hours if driven.

Governor Abbott has surged more Texas National Guard troops to the El Paso area.

Mexico has set up checkpoints in Jimenez. Cars and buses are being checked to make sure migrants heading to the border are taken into custody.

A special response team was dispatched to Gate 36, a marker at the border wall in El Paso where a migrant riot broke out on March 21.

'We have a group of close to 1,000 that's left Chihuahua City that is making its way to El Paso with instructions to go to Gate 36,' El Paso's DA, who is prosecuting over 200 migrants charged in the stampede, stated earlier this week.

'I'm concerned that if we don't send that message that you can't come to Gate 36 or some other place in El Paso and perpetrate violence to get into the United States, we can stop them.'

We'll see how successful Mexican officials are in stopping the caravan from crossing the U.S. border. Too bad Joe Biden isn't showing any response to the anticipated arrival of the caravan in the El Paso area. He doesn't care.
