For the first time since 2019, immigration ranks as the single biggest issue. I remember in past election cycles when Republicans would try to make illegal immigration into a top issue. It never really happened. Trump ran on illegal immigration in 2016, and he gained traction on the issue, but it was still a Republican issue. Joe Biden has changed that. The Biden border crisis turned every state into a border state. 

Donald Trump is (rightly) taking advantage of Biden's refusal to secure the southern border. His campaign released an ad that features Laken Riley's murder by an illegal alien from Venezuela in Georgia last week. It's good.

There is no escaping what illegal immigration is doing to our country. Crime is up, community services are being cut to fund services for illegals, medical facilities are overcrowded, school systems are being overrun, and community centers are being turned into shelters.

Laken Riley was murdered last week. The White House didn't comment until Monday. Things are so bad now that even the mainstream press has to report on the situation. They ignored the southern border for most of Biden's term, running cover for his dereliction of duty, and only reporting on the border when thousands are seeking shelter under a bridge. Times have changed.

Gallup is out with a new poll. The number of Americans who think immigration is the top issue in the 2024 election has increased in the last month. 

Significantly more Americans name immigration as the most important problem facing the U.S. (28%) than did a month ago (20%). Immigration has now passed the government as the most often cited problem, after the two issues tied for the top position the past two months. The government ranked first each month from January through November 2023.

In the latest poll, 20% of Americans name the government as the most important problem, followed by the economy (12%) and inflation (11%). Immigration is the only issue that has shown meaningful change in the past month.

The results come from a survey taken by Gallup from February 1 - February 20. The last time immigration ranked above all the other issues was five years ago when Central Americans flooded the border. Immigration was ranked as the top issue in July and November 2018 and in July 2014. 

Gallup has been polling on immigration since 1981. The current percentage that cites immigration as the top issue essentially ties with the 27% response from July 2019. It's the highest in Gallup's trend.

All population segments report immigration as a top issue but Democrats are not as concerned as Republicans and independents. 

Republicans typically are the subgroup most likely to name immigration as the most important problem, and they are largely responsible for the increase in mentions this month. Currently, 57% of Republicans, up from 37% in January, say immigration is the top problem. Independents show a modest uptick, from 16% in January to 22% now, while there has been no meaningful change among Democrats (9% in January and 10% in February).

Residents of the East (36%) and South (31%) are more likely to say immigration is the biggest U.S. problem than are those living in the Midwest (25%) and West (22%). Southern residents have typically been most likely to regard immigration as the top issue.

This issue is only getting worse for Biden. Horrific crimes committed by illegal aliens are reported more frequently now, whether there is truly an increase or it is being noticed by the press now is unclear. But common sense tells us that the more illegal immigrants enter the country and are allowed to remain, the more likelihood that crime committed by illegals will increase.

It's time for voters to send a message loud and clear in November. We have to change the leadership at the top. Securing the border and protecting the homeland is job one for the president. Donald Trump knew that in 2015. He was immediately demonized by the left for the measures he took to secure the border. His actions were not very different than the ones used by Obama, such as the 'cages' that the Obama administration built to detain border crossers. Trump was able to work with Mexico to implement Remain in Mexico, for example, which made a big difference. 

Biden used executive orders on day one of his term to erase the Trump policies that worked. We see what has happened. Unfortunately, Biden is too stubborn to admit the catastrophe he intentionally created. A country without borders is not a sovereign country. 

Joe Biden has created the atmosphere for something really bad to happen. Viiolent Venezuelan gangs are here. The number of people on the terror watch list crossing the border has dramatically increased. Experts are sending warnings that it's not if but when something happens. Joe Biden has blood on his hands. He cannot be allowed another term to further destroy our country.
