I ask that question because a reporter asked President Biden if Republicans have blood on their hands for the death of Alexei Navalny. It was a swipe at House Republicans who did not take up the Senate financial aid bill that includes Ukraine. However, that was an apples-and-oranges comparison. Inserting Navalny into the battle over funding Ukraine is partisan politics.
The question can be asked of Joe Biden and his open southern border. This is a legitimate question. A young woman in Georgia is dead because an illegal alien from Venezuela murdered her.
Campus police at the University of Georgia recommended charges against Jose Antonio Ibarra, 26, in the death of Laken Riley. Those charges are felony murder, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and concealing the death of another. Laken was a student at Augusta University College of Nursing. She was found dead on the University of Georgia's campus where she was jogging on a popular trail in broad daylight.
Ibarra was arrested and taken to the Clarke County Jail.
Laken was a junior on the dean's list at the nursing college. She was found near a lake on the University of Georgia's campus Thursday. Her murder is being described as a 'crime of opportunity" by "an individual who woke up with bad intentions." There is no evidence that Laken and Ibarra knew each other. She died of blunt-force trauma, according to UGA Police Chief Jeff Clark.
Footage from campus security cameras was used by police, as well as physical evidence to find Laken's murderer. A search warrant was executed for his apartment. He is a resident of Athens but not a U.S. citizen or a student.
“The evidence suggests that this was a solo act,” Clark said, adding authorities had taken 3 or 4 people in custody but only arrested Ibarra. He said there were “no indications of a continuing threat to the community related to this case at this time.”
She was a student at UGA until 2023 when she enrolled at Augusta University. A friend called authorities when Laken did not return from jogging.
“It is with deepest sorrow that I share with you the news that one of our students at our College of Nursing campus at Athens has passed away,” Augusta University President Brooks A. Keel said in a letter to his school’s community.
On Saturday it was confirmed that Jose Antonio Ibarra illegally entered the United States at El Paso, Texas, in 2022 and was allowed to remain in the country thanks to President Biden's continuing ‘special status’ program for Venezuelans. It has been reported that he was released from a detention center due to overcrowding.
It is unclear when he went to Georgia. Three or four others were rounded up as possible suspects in Laken's murder. One was Ibarra's brother who possessed a fake green card.
Joe Biden has not said anything about this senseless death at the hands of an illegal alien. He's quick to weigh in on other murders and tragedies when it politically benefits him. Laken was a beautiful young white woman with a bright future ahead of her. Joe Biden's open southern border is the reason she is dead now.
Laken's mother, Allyson Phillips, posted on Facebook that she was missing her daughter while she was on vacation the day before Laken was found dead. Laken was close with her family. Her family is speaking out now about Laken's death.
"We wish to thank the public for their prayers and thoughts during this tragic time. We thank the University of GA Police Department, Athens-Clarke County Police Department, the Clarke County District Attorney's Office, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for their quick response, and diligent effort in the investigation and arrest of those individual(s) responsible for our daughter's death," the statement said.
"Laken was an amazing daughter, sister, friend and overall person in general. Her love for the Lord was exemplified in every aspect of her life. She will be missed every day, but we promise to honor her life moving forward in a very big way," the family's statement said.
The family also asked that people respect their privacy.
Georgia politicians are speaking out, too.
Laken Riley's tragic death struck the hearts of Georgians everywhere and has sparked national outrage.

Joe Biden's failed policies have turned every state into a border state, and I'm demanding information from him so we can protect our people when the federal government won’t! pic.twitter.com/wsD4H6BSr6
Rep. Mike Collins, a Republican who represents Athens, home of UGA, put the responsibility for Laken's death on Biden and DHS Security Mayorkas.
The blood of Laken Riley is on the hands of Joe Biden, Alejandro Mayorkas, and the government of Athens-Clarke County.

The Venezuelan suspect in Laken Riley’s murder is one of millions of illegal aliens that the Biden administration has released into this country to be welcomed…

Joe Biden, Mayorkas, and the Democrats have blood on their hands.
Praying for her family. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/c0Z28koA1C
Biden has allowed over 7 million illegal immigrants into our country since he took office and opened the southern border to the world. He has blood on his hands. The buck stops with him. This will continue and there are gotaways in our country who have not been vetted or identified at all.
The catastrophe at the southern border is the work of Joe Biden. It is intentional. Biden has created a humanitarian and national security crisis. Laken Riley is the latest victim.
