Hillary Clinton took it upon herself to warn others at the Munich Security Council in Germany over the weekend of what will happen if Donald Trump becomes president again. 

Poor Hillary. The only way she can get attention is to trash Trump and Republicans. Her tendency to fall for conspiracy theories was on full display. Remember, this is the woman responsible for the Russia, Russia, Russia narrative that Democrats put Americans through for the duration of the Trump administration and beyond. 

Clinton told U.S. allies that if Trump is elected, they should take his comments about NATO seriously. Trump recently warned NATO countries that he will expect them to pay their dues to contribute their fair share. Why should the United States contribute more than other countries? 

"We have a long struggle ahead of us, and the obvious point to make about Donald Trump is take him literally and seriously," she said. "He means what he says. People did not take him literally and seriously in 2016. Now he is telling us what he intends to do, and people who try to wish it away, brush it away, are living in an alternative reality."

"He will do everything he can to become an absolute authoritarian leader if given the opportunity to do so. And he will pull us out of NATO even though the Congress passed a resolution saying that he couldn’t without congressional support, because he will just not fund our obligations," she said.

Hillary doesn't realize she is a relic of the past in American politics. Most of all, Donald Trump broke her when he won the presidential election in 2016. Hillary thought she was entitled to be president and she would sail into victory. Voters had a different idea, though, and thanks to red states and swing states, Trump won. One reason Trump won was because voters appreciated his America First agenda. States that Democrats look down on as flyover states saved us from a President Hillary. 

Pre-Trump, NATO allies were not held accountable for not paying NATO dues in full. Trump, to his credit, put a stop to that. During his first term in office, he demanded that NATO countries pay up and they did. At the time, NATO officials praised Trump for his leadership.

Trump held a campaign rally in South Carolina and addressed a conversation he said he had with an unnamed “president of a big country." Trump alleges that the president asked Trump if the United States would protect his country if it was attacked by Russia. Paying dues was brought up and then the controversy happened.

“Well sir, if we don’t pay, and we’re attacked by Russia – will you protect us?” Trump quoted the leader as saying.

“I said: ‘You didn’t pay? You’re delinquent?’ He said: ‘Yes, let’s say that happened.’ No, I would not protect you. In fact, I would encourage them to do whatever the hell they want,” Trump said, referring to Russia, according to Reuters. “You gotta pay.”

Leftists and their fellow travelers in the media lost their minds. Does anyone really think that Trump would pull out of NATO and not honor our obligations that for decades have been honored? Trump likes to talk tough but I'm pretty sure he knows the importance of the alliance. Remember, he was speaking at a campaign event and throwing red meat to primary voters.

NATO member countries commit to spending a minimum of 2% of their gross domestic product (GDP) on defense. NATO does not have a standing military so this alliance bonds Western nations together should a military response be necessary to protect one of its members. The problem is that member countries are again not meeting their pledges. NATO is funded by its 31 member countries. The largest financial contributions come from the United States, Germany, and the United Kingdom. Only 35% of member countries are fulfilling their commitments. 

A funny thing happened after Trump's remarks - the NATO chief announced that 18 member countries are now on track to meet their pledges. European states are on track to contribute $380B this year. Germany will meet its 2% pledge for the first time since the Cold War. These figures amount to a dramatic rise compared to 2023. Only eleven NATO countries met their 2% spending pledges.

Anyway, those remarks allowed Hillary to bloviate overseas about the dangers of another Trump presidency. However, others at the Munich conference clarified that Trump's words may be tough but he has a strong record of working with NATO. 

“Donald Trump’s political rallies don’t really translate into Donald Trump’s actual policies,” House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-Ohio) told NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday. “If you look at his policies, if you look at his record, he actually increased funding for NATO, increased the European Reassurance Initiative, and in fact for Ukraine, he was the first president to give lethal weapons to Ukraine. So I think his record is strong, and I think that’s what’s important.”

The conspiracy theorist in Hillary came out as she spoke about Trump and right-leaning thinkers "so to speak" who have launched Project 2025, "a plan to reshape the executive branch of the U.S. federal government in the event of a Republican victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election." It was founded in 2022. Its goal is to recruit tens of thousands of conservatives to Washington, D.C. to replace existing federal civil service workers known as the deep state. Hillary almost snarled when she mentioned "right-wing thinkers, so to speak" because she fully believes that she and other leftists are intellectual betters. She has a true disdain for Republicans and conservatives, especially Trump. She is willing to believe that an overhaul in D.C. would be possible with civil service workers. It didn't happen in 2016 and Trump certainly did not 'drain the swamp' during his administration. Would things be different in a second term? 

The truth is that Trump did well in handling NATO during his first term. There is no reason to think he wouldn't do the same again. His way of speaking is often crude but that makes him seem unpredictable. That's often a good thing when dealing with world leaders.
