Joe Biden addressed the nation, briefly and an hour and a half late, on the Senate border bill Tuesday. It did not go well. 

He also spoke about Ukraine because Ukraine funding was the reason that securing the southern border was even being considered. Republicans, for once, tried to use leverage. They insisted there be a bill on border security to vote on aid to Ukraine and Israel. Clear enough. Joe Biden is desperate to provide tens of billions in aid to Ukraine and that is his focus. 

The speech was classic demented Biden. He slurred and mumbled his words as he squinted to read his speech. Biden is pleased with the border bill which should be a huge red flag. This is the man who until recent weeks denied that the border open. He denied that there was a problem with the southern border. Then the Biden border crisis became so bad that he had to start paying attention. The crisis has become a catastrophe. The highest number of apprehensions by Border Patrol was recorded in December. 

Immigration and border security is a top issue with voters. Biden's re-election is in grave danger because of his incompetence and inability to govern. In his first days in office, he signed 90-plus executive orders to prove he was the anti-Trump president. The problem with that is that Trump's actions secured the southern border as much as can be expected. Yet, after three years of chaos on the southern border, Joe Biden still refuses to whip out his pen and sign executive orders to undo his very poor decisions. He insists that Congress has to pass new laws. 

All Joe Biden has to do is to enforce the laws on the books now. He can do that today. He can sign executive orders today, too. The Biden border crisis is intentional.

After weeks of working on a bill in secret, the Senate dropped the bill on Sunday night. It is over 300 pages and a large focus is on Ukraine. Surprise! Not.  

Biden began his mess of a speech by talking about the need for unity and putting a stop to petty partisan politics. This mumbo-jumbo from Biden always irritates me because of the sheer hypocrisy of his remarks. Joe Biden has no desire for an end to partisan politics. He is the most divisive president in recent years. He thrives and encourages division. 

What did Mr. Unity do? He launched into an attack on former President Trump and MAGA Republicans. "The only reason that the border is not secure is because of Donald Trump and his MAGA friends."

Unbelievable. From now until election day, Biden and his merry band of minions will try to convince voters that it is Trump and Republicans who are responsible for an open border. It's laughable, of course, and a lousy attempt at gaslighting. Maybe some people will buy what he's selling if they don't pay attention to current events. It is hard to believe that sane people will fall for it. 

During the Trump administration, progressives and other Democrats were gnashing their teeth and protesting over how strongly Trump went after border security when illegal immigration rose to a level of concern. Obama, before him, did the same thing. Obama was referred to as the deporter-in-chief by progressives who didn't agree with his policies. Remember all the angst over kids in cages? Those cages were built by Obama. 

Biden has gone in the opposite direction and it will take a while to stop the chaos. The border bill is not the way forward. It still allows 5,000 illegal immigrants per day to cross the border. This is insanity. It is not only a humanitarian crisis. It is a national security threat. A record number of illegal immigrants are showing up on the terror watch list. It only took 19 to do the terror attacks on 9/11/01. Intelligence officers and the FBI are sounding alarms that attacks are likely imminent. Yet, Joe Biden shuffles along, unconcerned about what is going on. 

The most alarming of Biden's remarks were the ones he made about the Israel-Hamas war. He was asked about the war and said he didn't want to take any questions. The press shouted questions anyway and Biden referred to Hamas as "the opposition." The reporter asked, you mean Hamas? He said yes. Hamas is not our opposition, President Biden. Hamas is a terror organization. Even the press was surprised. 

This man is the president of the United States. It's a disgrace and a mistake that must be corrected in November. He said that the world is watching. Yes, it is. The Telegraph in the UK published an article about Biden forgetting the name of Hamas. 

Biden tried to encourage Trump supporters to go against Trump's advice on not passing a bill that is worse than no bill at all. He told them to "show some spine." 

Weighing in forcefully after months of largely staying out of the fray, Mr. Biden called on congressional Republicans to “show some spine” and stand up to Mr. Trump. But he effectively acknowledged that the deal negotiated over several months was doomed and vowed to make it a campaign issue against the opposition.

Big words from a feeble old man who leads from behind. The world is on fire and he played a part in all of it. There were no new wars during Trump's term in office. Biden's weakness on the world stage has been disastrous. 

Good luck with blaming Trump for an open border, Joe. We live in upside-down times.
