Border Patrol Union Endorses Senate Border Bill

The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) supports the Senate border bill. I know. I was shocked, too.

NBPC endorses the border security portion of the bill dropped on Sunday night when no one was paying attention. It does not weigh in on the foreign aid for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.

The reason the NBPC gave for endorsing the border bill is that it is "far better than the status quo." The union president is supporting the bill even though he endorsed Trump for president and Trump does not support the bill. The union says the bill is not perfect but it will deliver some help.

Here's the thing - when lawmakers vote yes on the bill, they vote on the entire bill, not just what border hawks think are the good parts. Why would Republicans vote yes on a bill that, for instance, allows 5,000 illegal aliens per day? That is the biggest downside to this bill that I see. The bill takes away power from courts in Texas and gives the power to the D.C. District Circuit Court which is filled with liberals. Those are just a couple of big red flags for me.

As I mentioned in another post, it's a no-win situation for Republicans. Democrats will say that Republicans just don't want to secure the border if they vote against it. If they vote for it, it gives Biden (or the president in office) the power to just say that closing the border is not in the national interest.

Asylum is the final step before a path to citizenship. The bill gives Secretary Mayorkas the ability to have a final say on asylum claims. What a disaster. None of this closes the border or decreases illegal immigration. It increases it.

The reason the Border Patrol union endorses the bill, according to Bill Melugin of FNC who has been covering the Biden border crisis throughout the last 3 plus years, is that like any other union, not all members agree with endorsements. However, Border Patrol agents and officials are desperate for relief. Agents aren't allowed to do the jobs for which they are trained. They are paper pushers helping process illegal immigrants. They hope this bill will help hire more agents, and put Border Patrol back in order

Per NBPC, approximately 60% of all border apprehensions are single adult adults, many of whom are military-age men.

NBPC says the Border Act of 2024 will give Border Patrol agents an authority that they never had in the past, including removing "single adults expeditiously and without a lengthy judicial review, which historically has required the release of these individuals into the interior of the U.S."

NBPC believes this will lead to a drop in illegal border crossings and allow agents to focus on detecting and apprehending would-be illegal border crossers who evade apprehension.

"While not perfect, the Border Act of 2024 is a step in the right direction and is far better than the status quo, which is why the National Border Patrol Council endorses this bill and hopes for a quick passage," NBPC said in a statement.

A bad bill isn't better than no bill. Congress is making laws here. Fortunately, Speaker Johnson said that the border bill is dead on arrival.

Let's hope they hold the line and protect the sovereignty of our country, not to mention the American people.
