New: NYC Mayor Tries to Dictate Restrictions on Migrant Buses

NYC Mayor Eric Adams is following the lead of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and trying to place restrictions on the arrival of migrant buses in his sanctuary city. Adams signed an executive order that he hopes will manage the arrival of the buses into the city.

I wrote about Mayor Johnson impounding migrant buses and issuing citations in Chicago in order to stop the flow of the illegal aliens into Chicago. We’ll see how that shakes out. When I wrote the post Wednesday, two migrant buses had been impounded so far.

Like Johnson in Chicago, Adams wants to make migrant bus arrivals a structured operation conducted during regular business hours.

Adams announced an executive order requiring charter buses transporting migrants to provide 32 hours’ notice in advance of their arrival in New York City. The order also requires buses to arrive between 8:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. between Monday and Friday. Such buses are also required to drop off at one particular spot.

If buses do not comply, it would result in a class B misdemeanor, with penalties including three months’ imprisonment and up to a $500 fine for individuals and $2,000 for corporations. Buses could also be impounded by the NYPD.

“To be clear, this is not stopping people from coming, but about ensuring the safety of migrants and making sure they can arrive in a coordinated and orderly way,” he said.

Right. How many times has Adams held a press conference to make statements about how he doesn’t want any more illegal aliens coming to New York? Many times. He complains that there is no more room to house illegals and he grouses about the fact that the Biden administration ignores his pleas for more financial aid to handle the arrivals. So now he’s looking to make money off of fines and impounding the buses.

Governor Abbott’s office said that about 27,000 illegal aliens have been bussed to NYC from Texas to relieve overcrowding along the border. Most illegals arrive on their own or courtesy of DHS. There have been 160,000 illegal aliens arrive in NYC during the last year. The amount arriving from Texas isn’t unreasonable. Governor Abbott pledged to continue sending the buses to sanctuary cities until the U.S.-Mexico border is secured. He is simply using a resource available to relieve the burden the Biden border crisis places on Texas. Sanctuary city mayors claimed they welcome all and had the services to provide for illegal aliens, so Abbott is taking them up on their hospitality. The open southern border was fine with them until the buses began to arrive. Why doesn’t Adams (and Johnson) complain when DHS moves illegal aliens to the city? There wasn’t a peep until Governor Abbott began doing it as a part of Operation Lone Star, the initiative he began to secure the border in March 2021 when it became clear that Biden is deliberately leaving the border open.

Adams is a supreme hypocrite, though, and he wanted to make it clear that he is targeting the buses sent by Abbott.

“New York City has begun to see another surge of migrants arriving, and we expect this to intensify over the coming days as a result of Texas Governor Abbott’s cruel and inhumane politics,” he said. “Just last week, 14 chartered buses with migrants arrived overnight from Texas, the highest recorded number in a single night, in addition to the hundreds of migrants who arrived that very same day via other modes of transportation.”

What is “cruel and inhumane” in the narrative Adams is trying to push is really just giving the illegal aliens what they want. They asked to go to NYC. There are currently six options available to them. They can choose from NYC, Chicago, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and Denver. That pretty much covers the country. I hope Governor Abbott will add some spots to the list in 2024. There is no slowdown happening at the border so there will still be a need for the transportation out of Texas.

Illegal immigration is not a 9-5 operation. It is 24/7. They arrive at all hours every day and night. Adams may want to limit the bus arrivals to a short window Monday through Friday but that isn’t how this works. He is going to have to continue to deal with Biden’s border crisis the same as everyone else.
