Busload of Illegal Aliens Dropped Off at Colorado Capitol

True to his word, Texas Governor Greg Abbott continues to send buses of illegal aliens to sanctuary cities. A busload of illegal aliens arrived in Denver on Monday.

A Denver Democrat, state Senator Julie Gonzales, was at the Capitol when the bus arrived at 8:30 a.m. She said that 40 to 50 people were on board. That would square with the other busloads of illegal aliens that leave Texas for sanctuary cities around the country. She led them into the building so they would be warm while officials planned the next steps.

Gonzales said that the illegal aliens told her they came from Eagle Pass, a hot spot for illegal immigration near the Texas border with Mexico. Denver Mayor Mike Johnston’s deputy chief of staff, Evan Dreyer, said he had not received confirmation of the details of the bus trip but it matched other buses arriving from Texas.

“The state of Texas, the governor’s office, has contracted with two or three different bus companies to transport migrants out of Texas to various locations around the country, Denver being one of those locations,” Dreyer said. “That’s our understanding, and that’s how this has operated for several months. Denver has received more than 200 charter buses direct from Texas over the last six months.”

The illegal aliens were sent to a municipal office a few blocks away from the Capitol building.

They told state Senator Gonzales that they were from Venezuela. Since December 2022, more than 29,000 illegal aliens, mostly from Venezuela, have arrived in Colorado. Venezuelans comprise a large demographic of illegal immigrants. They have overwhelmed border towns in Texas.

Dreyer told reporters that city officials have asked that the buses take the illegal aliens to a city intake center but those requests have been ignored. The buses arrive at city and county buildings to drop off those onboard. The busload on Monday was the first one to stop at the state Capitol.

Why should bus drivers from Texas make a special effort to drop off people at specific locations to make it easier for sanctuary city officials? The illegal border crossers don’t go to legal ports of entry, making the jobs of Border Patrol go smoothly.

While Gonzales praised Denver officials as they work to help the illegal aliens who have arrived in recent months, Dreyer complained that the illegal aliens arrive without coordinating with the city officials. And, he groused that they don’t have cold-weather clothes. When they arrived Monday morning, the temperature was in the 40s.

“These are folks who have come from the Texas border after long journeys, and they are not prepared for cold weather,” he said. “And to drop them off like that, just randomly, in the cold — in the freezing cold — is inhumane, dangerous and it puts their lives at risk. It’s shameful.”

Here’s the thing – what is inhumane is the open border created by Joe Biden on the first day of his administration. He created the humanitarian crisis and the national security crisis along the southern border. It was an intentional effort and it continues three years later. They come to the U.S.-Mexico border because Biden has put out the welcome mat for them. Once they cross the border, most of them have been allowed to remain in the United States. Biden signed executive orders making Venezuelans a protected class of illegal immigrants, for example, and they are given parole to stay.

Officials in big blue cities virtue-signaled that everyone is welcome, regardless of legal status, so Governor Abbott began sending illegal aliens to the cities of their choice to ease the overwhelming overcrowding in Texas. Sanctuary cities claimed they could handle the arrivals, so Abbott took them up on their hospitality. No one said a peep as long as the illegal aliens remained in Texas. Let Texas (and Arizona) deal with it was the attitude. No mas. Abbott put the Operation Lone Star initiative in place to counter the Biden border crisis in March 2021, as it became clear that the crisis was only getting worse. Texas taxpayers pay for Operation Lone Star. Why should Texas have to shoulder the burden of illegal immigration when immigration is a federal issue and the responsibility of the president?

Cry harder, sanctuary cities.

Those arriving illegally in the United States know who to thank. They thank Joe Biden. They admit they aren’t interested in asylum, they are here to get jobs and exploit the land of opportunity. That is not a legal reason to be granted asylum under current immigration law.

Thanks, Joe Biden.
