Levi Williams knows what he wants to do with his life. He will forego his final year of eligibility to play football for Utah State University. He is going to join the Navy SEALS.

Williams made his announcement during a podcast interview. He spoke about his love of playing football but he knows his playing days are “going to come to an end.” The announcement came just days after he helped the team defeat the University of New Mexico and secure bowl eligibility.

He is a patriot and military service runs in his family.

“I just want to be in a spot where I can protect this great country where we get to play football with the freedom to do that,” Williams said. “I think this is the best country in the world, so I’d like to keep it that way and protect it as long as I can.”

Williams said serving the United States “kind of runs in the family.” His mother served in the U.S. Army, and his grandparents served in both the Army and the Navy.

He told his fiancee that “God’s calling me” and he plans to serve in the military. He said she understood because her father is an Army veteran.

“Obviously, we can’t prepare for everything,” Williams said. “There’s going to be some unexpected turns along the way. As long you trust God and trust me, I think we’re going to be alright.”

He will begin his training this summer.

If chosen when the selection process begins in February, Williams’s training would begin in the summer, with graduation sometime later in 2024, according to KSL Sports.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and 230 pounds, Williams, a native of Canyon Lake, Texas, will now look to see how his intangible translates to the military as he continues his pursuit of greatness off the gridiron.

Instead of opting for the NFL draft, Levi is going to serve his country.

Good for him. At a time when military recruitment is down, it’s refreshing to read about a young man who feels called to serve his country.
