The Conservative Party in Canada voted unanimously against an update to the Canada-Ukraine Free Trade Agreement between Canada and Ukraine. Trudeau blames the defeat on American MAGA Republicans.

Trudeau said that conservative American thinking has spread across the border and infiltrated Canadian politics. The far-left prime minister accused the Conservative Party of turning their backs on Ukraine. He held a press conference on Friday.

“I’ve actually boasted . . . that it’s not a political debate in Canada, all parties in Canada stand with Ukraine,” Trudeau said at a press conference Friday. “So it is particularly troubling to see — even though we are seeing a rise of right-wing rhetoric in the United States with MAGA conservatives, across Europe, in certain corners of right-wing politicians and parties — starting to pull their support for Ukraine. Starting to parrot Russian disinformation and misinformation and propaganda.”

Americans don’t have a vote on Canadian trade agreements, of course, but Trudeau is rattled about the rise in popularity of conservative politicians in Canada and around the world. It’s quite a flex for Trudeau to point a finger at MAGA Republicans when the entire Conservative Party delegation voted against the trade agreement. The reason, according to the up-and-coming Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre, had nothing to do with waning support for Ukraine but a rejection of a carbon tax in the agreement that would have been a burden to the war-torn country.

Trudeau rejects the carbon tax excuse.

“The real story is the rise of a right-wing, American MAGA-influenced thinking that has made Canadian Conservatives — who used to be among the strongest defenders of Ukraine, I’ll admit it — turn their backs on something Ukraine needs in its hour of need,” Trudeau said.

“That is the danger of the rise of the right-wing influence that is feeling its impact in Canada. That’s what not just Ukrainian Canadians but all Canadians should be concerned about. When the Conservative Party of Canada and Pierre Poilievre turn their backs on history, turn their backs on our friends and allies, turn their backs on the international rules-based order and our support for the UN Charter and territorial Integrity, it is of real concern and should be of concern to all of us, because we’re seeing that spiking up all around the world,” Trudeau said.

Trudeau wanted to insert a carbon tax into the existing agreement and Poilievre pointed out how disastrous a carbon tax has been on Canadians. Why would Trudeau insist on hurting a war-torn country with a carbon tax?

“We voted against Justin Trudeau forcing a carbon tax into that pre-existing agreement. Conservatives understand how devastating the carbon tax has been for Canadians,” Poilievre said. “It’s caused two million people to go to a food bank every single month, seven million Canadians not eating enough to stay healthy.”

The climate change wackos like Trudeau are clueless when it comes to common sense. Poilievre is young but an experienced lawmaker in Canada. He promises to bring more common sense to Canadian politics. Progressive politics are failing in Canada, as they are in other countries, including the United States. Canadians are having a tough time with basic living expenses like Americans are. But to blame American politics for his failures to pull the wool over Canadian Conservatives is a stretch.

Poilievre went viral on social media for pushing back on a typical media reporter who wanted to link his politics to that of Trump. Poilievre destroyed the reporter and it was a thing of beauty. He calmly ate an apple while doing so.

Poilievre pointed to Trudeau’s obsession with bad policies, like a carbon tax, that would be a burden on Ukraine and poor people would be hardest hit. The trade agreement commits both parties to coordinate “bilaterally and in international forums to address matters of mutual interest, as appropriate, to . . . promote carbon pricing and measures to mitigate carbon leakage risks.” Ukraine has had a carbon tax since 2011, however, it is working to modify the tax while it seeks membership in the EU.

Read the room, Justin.

This isn’t the first time Trudeau has blamed Americans for his failures. He blamed the “American right-wing” for opposition from Canadian Muslims to gender ideology and LGBTQ curriculum in K-12 education. In the Muslim community at the Baitun Nur Mosque in Calgary, hundreds of protesters came out against gender ideology in schools. An audio surfaced of an Edmonton public school teacher berating Muslim students for skipping school to avoid Pride events. Trudeau did what progressives do in the United States – he blamed misinformation on what is being taught in schools. That battle plays out in the United States, too. Parents are paying attention and fighting back on the social agenda forced on their children in public schools.

Those parents were Muslims. Their objections are based on their religious beliefs. This isn’t hard to understand. Common sense. This is why conservative politicians are winning elections, not just in the United States and Canada but in other countries, too. The failures of progressive politics are causing the political pendulum to swing back toward the middle, and leaning conservative. Trudeau’s time in power, hopefully, is coming to an end.
