Good news. Coach Kim Russell, the former Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach at Oberlin College, has joined Independent Women’s Forum as an ambassador.

Coach Russell was fired by Oberlin College for not going along to get along with the transgender agenda on campus. Russell was disturbed when Lia Thomas was allowed to compete in a women’s NCAA swimming championship event. Russell posted on social media her congratulations to “the real women” who won the freestyle swimming event. One of her Lacrosse players, one that she was close to, turned Russell in to the athletic director. As a result of that, Russell was called in for a series of disciplinary meetings. She recorded one for her own protection.

Kim Russell was told that she fell into a category of people who are filled with hate. She was told it is acceptable to have her own beliefs but not if they go against those of Oberlin College. That would be a problem for her employment.

She refused to back down and held on to her personal opinions. Russell refused to apologize. She was removed from her coaching position and put into a newly-created position – as an employee wellness project manager. The new job did not involve interaction with students. This is how she was treated after maintaining an excellent record for a career that spanned 27 years. Eventually she was driven away from Oberlin.

Enter Independent Women’s Forum (IWF), a conservative, non-profit organization focused on economic policy issues of concern to women. IWF has jumped into the fight to save women’s sports in a big way. They brought on Riley Gaines, who was involved in competing against Lia Thomas as a NCAA champion swimmer, as an ambassador. IWF has also given a platform to another champion swimmer, Paula Scanlan, Stand with Women spokeswoman, for Independent Women’s Forum.

At the time she began her relationship with IWF, she told the organization that she was “burned at the stake” for her beliefs.

“I was not just chastised,” Russell began, recounting what took place in an interview with Independent Women’s Forum. “I was burned at the stake. I was stoned. I was basically told I was a horrible person, and it was heartbreaking, really.”

IWF made a documentary using that phrase as its title of Russell’s story that is offered via YouTube. It is a very compelling story and I highly recommend taking a few minutes and learning about what women are up against in college sports.

The president of IWF released a statement welcoming Coach Russell.

Carrie Lukas, Independent Women’s Forum president, said: “We are thrilled to have Kim join the team at IWF. People need to hear her experience as a woman who was standing up for other women and for the very concept of womanhood, and was attacked for it. In spite of harassment and their attempts to silence her, Kim refused to stand down. This takes real courage. This takes guts and commitment. We know that Kim will inspire other NCAA coaches and leaders to speak up against what’s happening to women and to the concept of free speech in too many institutions. We are excited to see what she is going to be able to accomplish at IWF.”

Lukas hit on a very important point – nothing changes until other NCAA coaches speak up. The student athletes are slowly finding the courage to come forward and object to having to compete with men. The women athletes know that cancel culture is strong, especially on college campuses. There are some glimmers of hope on the horizon. Women athletes have to boycott the events where they are forced to compete against transgender athletes. Coaches have to support them and work for a change back to normal.

Riley Gaines and Paula Scanlan released statements, too.

Riley Gaines, ambassador for Independent Women’s Forum, said: “I’m so glad Coach Kim Russell is joining the team. For too long, this country has had weak leaders unwilling to take a stand for what’s right, fair, and just. Kim isn’t willing to be that person. I’m grateful we’ve linked arms in this fight to preserve women’s sports and spaces. IWF continues to be the leading organization doing those things.”

Paula Scanlan, Stand with Women spokeswoman, for Independent Women’s Forum, said: “Kim is a brave, strong, and courageous woman and is a great addition to our IWF team. Coaches have been silent on this issue for far too long and Kim speaking up will help empower other coaches to do the same.”

Kim Russell brings a high profile personal story to the issue of transgender athletes in women’s sports. Women have to support each other against woke colleges and universities. Coaches have to ban together with their teams to fight for fairness in women’s sports. Enough is enough. Save women’s sports.
