Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) was a guest on Wednesday night’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Colbert asked if it was awkward to see Senate colleagues (Republicans) in the cafeteria after posting “a devastating meme” about them on social media.

“You all should need to know that America is not sending their best and brightest to Washington, D.C.,” replied Fetterman.

“Like, sometimes you literally just can’t believe these people are making the decisions that are determining the government here, it’s actually scary too,” he continued, noting how the federal government came thisclose to shutting down thanks to a handful of Republicans.

“You have some very less gifted kinds of people there that are willing to shut down the government just to score points on Fox,” he added.

Let’s cut to the chase here – Americans are painfully aware that the best and brightest are not being sent to Congress. We hear statements and read quotes all the time and shake our heads, wondering how in the world that person was ever elected to public office. The truth is that many voters do not bother to learn about candidates. They vote for whichever candidate has the right party affiliation next to the name on the ballot. Voters respond to political ads online or on television.

Fetterman is right – it is scary. Not in the way he implies because he is all about slamming Republicans. Fetterman should not be in elected office after his life-threatening stroke. He is mentally impaired. He suffers from clinical depression that makes it difficult for him to cope with dressing appropriately for his job. He dresses as a teenager, decked out in oversized hoodies and gym shorts. Sneakers complete his look. The idiot Democrat in control of the Senate took it upon himself to change the dress code for the Senate to accommodate Fetterman. It took a few days but Senate Democrats finally realized how ridiculous that decision was and spoke out in favor of decorum. Schumer’s sop to Fetterman was overruled by his own party.

Fetterman is accommodated in the Senate with special technology in order to speak and understand what others are saying during hearings and on the Senate floor. I don’t begrudge any of that sort of special treatment but let’s not pretend that it’s a sign of strength and normalcy for Fetterman.

His mental disability from his stroke make Fetterman often sound like a teenager. His “devastating memes” are usually personal against Republicans and often sound like a bully published them.

Not exactly Mensa-level discourse coming from the senator.

The predictable happened. Conservatives criticized Fetterman.

“John Fetterman should look in the mirror,” Citizen Free Press posted about the politician’s comment, while pro-Republican account @ProudElephantUS said: “Coming from him? That’s hilarious.”

Leftists praised him and his ability to communicate. That’s right – he was being praised for his ability to simply speak and deliver a coherent thought. The bar is set low, y’all.

“I enjoyed the interview,” wrote one. “John Fetterman is much-improved since his stroke. I really wondered at first if he would recover and be able to do the job as Senator, but hearing his responses tonight made me see that he’s able.”

“John Fetterman is on Colbert and I’ve honestly never heard him speak at length,” commented another. “He’s really well spoken and quite enamoring. And he’s quick…. Despite having a stroke.”

I don’t think anyone has ever said that Fetterman is “quick.”

Fetterman and Colbert exchanged gifts. Colbert gifted Fetterman with a tuxedo t-shirt and Fetterman gave Colbert an XXL-size hoodie. Colbert may have been mocking the Senate’s dress code with the tuxedo t-shirt but you notice that Colbert shows up in appropriate attire for an adult male in his job – a jacket and tie. He’s not showing up looking like he’s headed to the gym.

He spoke about his battle with clinical depression. The struggle, he said, has made him “a more empathetic” person. Except when it comes to his Republican colleagues, apparently.
