White House sends news groups their marching orders on covering Biden impeachment inquiry

The White House is sending major news organizations a letter instructing them to ‘ramp up scrutiny’ of the Biden impeachment inquiry. It’s just another day in the authoritarian world of the Biden administration.

In Biden’s America, the media takes marching orders from the White House communication office which instructs them on how to do their job. Free press, schmree press. It makes sense though, considering how the press covers for Democrats. Impartiality in political reporting went by the wayside long ago. Most reporters and certainly the media personalities are Democrats who don’t even bother to pretend to be unbiased anymore.

The White House is sending the letter to news outlets like CNN, The New York Times, and Fox News. It urges them to “ramp up their scrutiny” of House Republicans “for opening an impeachment inquiry based on lies.” That’s the popular talking point – the alleged impeachable conduct by Biden are all just lies. There is no evidence. That’s their story and they are sticking to it.

As Speaker McCarthy said when he announced he ordered an impeachment inquiry into Biden’s involvement in Hunter’s business dealings, it is Joe Biden who is the liar. He has lied for many years about his lack of knowledge about his son’s business dealings, insisting he has had no involvement whatsoever in the Biden crime family activities. The jig is up.

The White House leaked a draft letter to news executives to CNN on Tuesday. White House Counsel’s Office spokesman Ian Sams insists there is no supporting evidence for impeachment. He said it “should set off alarm bells for news organizations.”

The White House may be guilty of overreach this time. Some journalists are raising eyebrows over the White House dictating their editorial direction.

CNN’s Oliver Darcy reports that Republicans “baselessly portray Biden as a corrupt, crime-ridden politician engaged in sinister activities.” Because, Trump. Some Republicans deny wrongdoing by Trump, you see, so obviously any finger-pointing at Biden’s corruption is “baseless.” The White House is frustrated that the media isn’t doing more to “dispel lies that saturate the public discourse.”

In its letter Wednesday, the White House will ask news organizations to be more clear-eyed in their coverage of the impeachment inquiry, and not to fall prey to the traps of false equivalency in reporting.

“Covering impeachment as a process story – Republicans say X, but the White House says Y – is a disservice to the American public who relies on the independent press to hold those in power accountable,” Sams wrote.

“And in the modern media environment, where every day liars and hucksters peddle disinformation and lies everywhere from Facebook to Fox, process stories that fail to unpack the illegitimacy of the claims on which House Republicans are basing all their actions only serve to generate confusion, put false premises in people’s feeds, and obscure the truth,” Sams added.

Some are bravely pushing back. No doubt their names will be struck from Biden’s notecard list of approved reporters on which to call during his very rare press conferences.

He continued, “Now, any time the media DOES try to hold Republican lawmakers to account, those lawmakers can simply counter by questioning whether it’s actual journalism or something encouraged by the Biden administration.

“All this demonstrates is that the Biden administration has lost confidence in the news media – which I guess mirrors public sentiment over the last few years, too.”

“The problem is they’re trying to influence coverage,” Keys concluded. “The government should never do that. It is inappropriate.”

The House Oversight Committee is certain it has the receipts when it comes to providing evidence of the Biden family corruption.

Bank records, phone records, eyewitness reports, text messages, and emails seem like pretty solid evidence to make a case. The first Trump impeachment was without evidence and this case is not at all like that impeachment. Democrats know about lies and bringing impeachment charges without evidence because that is what they did during the Trump administration. Pot/Kettle.

We’ll soon know how many reporters are willing to do their job and not succumb to White House pressure on how to cover Biden’s impeachment inquiry. We’ll see how many follow the lead of AP and regurgitate the “without evidence” talking point from the White House.

Are fellow journalists of AP going to pounce? They should but it remains to be seen. This is a perfect opportunity to prove that there is a glimmer of hope for journalism in this country. I’ll not hold my breath, though. The White House arrogantly feels entitled to tell the press how to cover the story because they have been allowed to act this way all along.
