Cenk Uygur is host of The Young Turks, a progressive news commentary show. He is calling Joe Biden “intensely selfish” for running for re-election.

The dam is breaking, perhaps slowly but it is definitely leaking, because Democrats are realizing that Joe Biden is not someone who should be running for a second term. A majority of Americans, including Democrats, say that Joe Biden is too old to run again. Voters don’t want him to run again. Democrats are starting to speak out. Uygur was on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday and Saturday blasting Biden and the situation Democrats find themselves in with him. “I’ll say the thing that no one else is willing to say. Joe Biden is being intensely selfish by running again.”

He’s right. I think it is mostly Jill Biden and Biden’s inner circle, but Joe Biden’s ego is so large that he cannot seem to admit he should not be running again. He ran in 2020 because he said he was the one who could beat Trump. He made his reason for running for president (his third time) all about him. Biden continues to claim everything he does is ‘historic’ and better than the previous president. It’s still all about his feelings for Trump. I sometimes ponder if Trump was not running, would Biden be running? But, yeah, I think he would either way.

Uygur began his rant against Biden on Friday when he tweeted, “Joe Biden says he is running for president again. So what? Why does every Democrat have to listen to him? Why is it assumed by everyone in Washington that dissent isn’t allowed against someone in power? What a weird assumption. I don’t agree. 2/3 of Democratic voters don’t agree.”

There is a petition on his website for people to sign. It’s titled, “President Biden, Please Drop Out.” Yikes. Granted, Cenk is of the far-left progressive wing of the Democrat Party. They have been upset with Biden for not being enough of a leftist for their desires for a long time. But will rank and file Democrats go along with pushing Biden out? The latest CNN poll was so brutal against Biden that maybe more Democrats are thinking about moving past Biden now.

By Saturday afternoon, Cenk shifted to posting that Biden is selfish and he (Cenk) is willing to say so publicly.

The petition calls on Biden to “please do the right thing and bow out with dignity” but we know that it won’t happen.

President Joe Biden has had a long and historied career in American government. He rescued us from the possibility of a second Trump term and we appreciate his service to the country. But at this point in time, we must have a strong, healthy candidate to make sure we avoid a fascist takeover of our government. Dear Mr. President, please do the right thing and bow out with dignity, so we can move on to the next generation of Democratic leaders – and so that we can defeat Donald Trump and the radical Republicans.

There are plenty of other people who could run, Cenk reasons.

He’s right about that. Biden hasn’t given voters reasons to vote for him again. Biden thinks his record is excellent and enough of a reason to win re-election but that isn’t how the majority of Americans feel about their lives right now. If a Republican running against Biden asked an audience if they are better off now than four years ago, the question Reagan famously posed, the answer would overwhelmingly be no. There are things that can be said against a Trump candidacy but his successes in office included a booming economy due to his economic policies. Every demographic did better in the Trump years, all the way up until the pandemic, a world event that was out of his control. Joe Biden was handed an economy that was on the way to recovery and he blew it. His massive federal spending plunged us into skyrocketing inflation and brought economic recovery to a standstill.

Biden is both embarrassing and dangerous as president. His presence on the world stage is one that weakens America. It has to stop.

I’m enjoying the blue on blue battle going on in the Democrat Party. The DNC is refusing to allow Democrats to have a primary. They have frozen out RFK, Jr. and Marianne Williamson. RFK, Jr. called it “election interference” and he’s right. Biden is counting on being installed once again by party leadership. It’s likely that Democrats will accept it and go along. If Republicans make a good choice for the party’s nominee, Biden should be beatable. There is no reason to re-elect him. This should be a golden opportunity for Republicans. I hope it doesn’t turn out to be another Lucy and the football moment.
