A Democrat county official in Texas made a big announcement Saturday. Kleberg County Attorney Kira Talip Sanchez confirmed a party switch. She switched from the Democrat Party to the Republican Party.
Sanchez’s reasons are the Biden border crisis and support for law enforcement for her party switch. She was a speaker during the Hispanic Republicans of Texas PAC’s 2024 election season kickoff event. What better event to announce a party switch in South Texas? Kleberg County borders the Gulf of Mexico in southern Texas. Historically, it is a blue county, though there have been Republicans who have broken through with voters – George W. Bush won the county in 2000 and 2004. Bush was popular with Texas Hispanic voters, especially for a Republican. Trump was able to flip the county in 2020 when he narrowly won the county.
Sanchez describes the Biden border crisis as “unprecedented” and she’s right about that. It was her main reason for switching political parties. She said the GOP policies are better for law and order.
” As County Attorney, I have been proud to work with law enforcement to ensure the safety of the citizens of Kleberg County,” Sanchez said in a statement. “There is an unprecedented crisis at our southern border. I believe that the GOP’s policies of law and order protecting safety, and backing the blue best align with my values and the values of the citizens of Kleberg County.”
“I look forward to working with my colleagues to keep South Texas safe,” Sanchez added.

Hispanic Republicans of Texas President Cassy Garcia said she is excited to continue her outreach to Democrat voters across Texas.
“Every day, we are meeting with people who have voted for Democrats for decades but that this is no longer their Abuelos’ Democratic Party,” Garcia argued. “It’s become too radical, elitist, and out of touch with our values.”
Abuelo means grandfather in Spanish. Joe Biden frequently tells his audiences that today’s Republican Party is not your father’s Republican Party. He’s right about that. However, the Democrat Party is not your grandfather’s party, either. Hispanic voter support for Joe Biden, for example, has collapsed. In 2020, Biden received 63% of the Hispanic vote.
A new Fox poll shows Hispanics have soured on Biden compared to 2020. Only about 46% of Hispanic voters support him now. Trump, in comparison, has slightly grown his Hispanic support from 35% in 2020 to 37% in 2024.
Hispanic voters are not a monolithic group so there are various reasons why Biden is losing Hispanic voters, but the primary reason is the economy. Biden’s non-stop vacations aren’t easing their discontent.
Christian author Lydia Dominguez, a Hispanic woman, explained to Fox News that her people are “totally upset with what’s going on” economy-wise, what with prices constantly rising.
“I see people in my community that are going out and getting second and third part-time jobs. It’s incredibly sad,” she said.
“I wish we could afford as many vacations as Biden is taking, that’s for sure. You know, we’re definitely seeing just the middle class dwindling,” she added.
Voters aren’t stupid. Joe Biden is traveling the country, along with his surrogates, blowing smoke about the alleged successes of Bidenomics. 80% of Americans do not believe the economy is great or good, according to a new Fox poll. A new Quinnipiac poll shows 71% of Americans do not believe the economy to be great or good. Americans know when they go to the grocery store, prices are up. The price of gas is going back up. Utility bills are high, as are mortgage interest rates and rent payments. Hispanic voters in South Texas are no different than anyone else. They are paying an average of $700 more each month for their basic bills, the same as other Americans around the country, thanks to Bidenomics and Bidenflation. People are paying more for less and Biden is losing Hispanic voters.
The Associated Press ran a similar report about Biden’s loss of Hispanic support in June. It is taking a toll on the entire Democrat Party.
“Hispanic voters, long a core constituency for Democrats, have reliably supported them based on substantive matters of policy, from health care to managing the economy, according to Pew Research Center surveys. But recent signs that Republicans have made inroads with those voters are adding to the sense that Democrats have work to do to maintain their advantage,” the AP lamented.
“Democratic candidates won 57% of Hispanic voters during last year’s midterms, a smaller percentage than the 63% of Hispanic voters Biden won in 2020 and the 66% of Hispanic voters supporting the party in 2018, when Democrats took control of the House, according to AP VoteCast, a sweeping survey of the national electorate.”
Sanchez has served as county attorney since 2014. The position requires that the elected official be a Texas resident and serve four-year terms.
As county attorney, Sanchez is in charge of the Specialized Crimes and Narcotics Task Force. Since March 2021, Texas law enforcement has seized over 426 million lethal doses of fentanyl.
“Voters and even candidates are switching to the Republican Party because Democrats no longer serve their interests,” Hispanic Republicans of Texas President Cassy Garcia said in a statement. “The best way to continue bringing folks over to the Republican Party is to keep pursuing policies that promote economic prosperity, keep our country safe, and support freedom. I’d like to thank Attorney Talip Sanchez for joining us tonight and for her work [for] Kleberg County, and I am excited to continue our outreach across Texas to bring more voters to the Republican Party.”
Joe Biden’s administration has been a disaster for Americans, including those in his own party.
