On Joe Biden’s first day in the White House, he put a stop to the border wall construction. Biden is vehemently anti-wall and border control. Now the Department of Defense is quietly selling off materials that were purchased but not used. Joe Biden does not want the construction of the border wall to begin again.
Republicans are trying to pass legislation to finish the wall. So, the Biden administration is selling off millions of dollars of border wall materials as quickly as possible. So far, 81 lots of 28-foot-tall hollow beams have been sold for about $2 million. There are photographs of steel “square structural tubes” for sale on GovPlanet, an online auction marketplace. It’s run by a publicly-traded Canadian company. The Department of Defense’s logistics agency confirmed to the Daily Upside and the New York Post that the beams are “excess border wall materials that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers turned over to the DLA for disposition and are now for sale.”
The materials are only excess materials because Biden refuses to admit that walls work and continue building the one that is already started. It sounds like the purchasers of the steel beams are getting a good deal. Too bad that’s at the expense of American taxpayers. Sales proceeds are going into the Pentagon budget.
The beams, intended as vertical bollards in the border wall’s 30-foot-tall panels, were sold in five separate lots for an average of $212 each. GovPlanet netted $154,200 for 729 of them. Another 13 square structural tubes are to be auctioned off on Aug. 23 and Aug. 30, the GovPlanet website says.
“The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is disposing of the excess border wall materials in accordance with the Federal Acquisition Regulation,” a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers spokesperson said in an email to Fox News Digital on Sunday. “USACE has already transferred approximately $154 million worth of the roughly $260 million of bollard panels and other materials in accordance with standard excess property disposition procedures. USACE stands ready to implement a decision regarding the disposition of the remaining materials.”
The materials would have been used as vertical bollards to hold up the wall’s 30-foot-tall panels. The website sold 729 of the beams last Tuesday. There are 13 more lots scheduled for auction on August 23 and August 30.
In July, the Senate passed its annual defense appropriations bill. At that time, it passed a Republican bill that would force Biden to build the wall to cut the number of illegal migrants coming across the border. The Republican legislation is called the Finish It Act.
Republicans say that up to $300 million in wall, components were left to rust when Biden came to office and that their Finish It Act will use the materials that were left behind or hand the supplies over to states such as Texas to use to shore up their projects, and critics say that the administration is rushing to sell the leftover materials before the law passes.
The tubes that are being sold are located in an outdoor storage lot in Pima County, Arizona, with a Department of Defense spokesman identifying them as “excess border wall materials.”
Employees of GovPlanet are under threat of firing if they disclose that the materials are from the border wall project.
The sales profits are being put into the Pentagon budget.
Republican lawmakers are slamming the sales.
Rep. Juan Ciscomani, R-Ariz., who represents the border district where wall components have been sitting, criticized Biden for his “refusal to act.”
“Instead of putting these materials to their intended use, they have been squandered, first collecting dust in the desert and now being auctioned off,” he said.
“This sale is a wasteful and ludicrous decision by the Biden administration that only serves as further proof they have no shame,” Sen. Roger Wicker, R-Mass, who is sponsoring the bill, told the Post, calling the auctions “outrageous, behind-the-scenes maneuvering.”
Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., a co-sponsor of the bill, agrees, saying that “leaving the border open to terrorists while selling border security materials at a loss is Bidenomics in a nutshell.”
Biden promised the most transparent administration ever. As with most other things he says, that was a lie. There is little that is transparent about this administration. Biden hides from the press and his press secretary is woefully incompetent. White House communications people are too busy lobbing snarky attacks on Republicans to deliver any helpful information to the public. While everyone is distracted by the scandal of the day, any hopes of starting up construction of the border wall are quickly vanishing, despite Republican legislative efforts.
