The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) released its annual report, “Year in Hate and Extremism” on Tuesday. The organization listed twelve groups as “extremist groups.’ Included in that list is Moms for Liberty. You see where this is going.

It’s all about trashing the “hard right.”

In 2022, the SPLC documented 523 hate and 702 antigovernment extremist groups, totalling 1,225 active groups. The presence of established groups is only one way to gauge the power and impact of the hard right. Through stories, public polling and social media analysis, this report clearly shows the impact of these groups and hard-right figures in the mainstream and on Main Street, demonstrating the growing harm and threat they pose to individuals, communities and democracy itself.

Hate groups, extremist activists, and one of our country’s major political parties have become increasingly intertwined since Donald Trump’s presidency began. Republican politicians now mingle freely with members of the organized white nationalist movement and employ their rhetoric more freely than at any other time in recent American history.

Moms for Liberty earned a spot on the list because they have the audacity to demand that schools stock appropriate books and material in libraries. The monsters. The group also lobbied against critical race theory in school curriculums. SPLC said the group is rooted in white supremacy. It calls Moms for Liberty part of the “anti-student inclusion movement.”

You can’t make this stuff up. Didn’t the SPLC see what happened in Virginia when the school districts and school boards thought they knew better than parents what school children need? Democrats got their butts handed to them in the 2020 elections. In Virginia, Governor Glenn Youngkin was ushered into office as an advocate for parental rights. Virginia is no longer a solid blue state.

Their greatest sin is that they battle teacher unions.

The loony left over at MSNBC is happy, happy, happy with the report.

Ex-FBI agent/MSNBC contributor Frank Figliuzzi hails the SPLC report calling parents rights groups and pro-female sports advocates domestic terrorists as "extremely comprehensive, well written, well-packaged" and proof "hate has gone local."

The SPLC says Moms for Liberty was given the designation due to what they believe are goals to “fuel right-wing hysteria and to make the world a less comfortable or safe place for certain students.”

WEAR News spoke with Moms for Liberty’s Santa Rosa County Chapter Chair Mariya Calkins last month about their plans to request the removal of 65 books from school libraries.

“I don’t understand why the school district and the school board members and superintendent are not taking a proactive action to remove those books as we presented the locations of those bad pornographic material, we expected them to react a little more passionately and a little more shocked as we were,” Calkins told WEAR News last month.

This is what the far-left does – it accuses anyone expressing a different opinion than theirs as being hateful. There is no room for civil discussions on hot button issues, like parents trying to protect their children and let them be innocent kids as long as possible. It is especially troubling how quickly they go to name calling, like white supremacists and KKK. This is why they are a garbage organization.

In a statement accompanying the report’s release, a spokesperson for the extremism watchdog group wrote that Moms for Liberty was the most prominent of 12 extremist “anti-student inclusion groups” mobilizing to “attack public education, ban books, and remove any curriculum that contains discussions of race, discrimination, and LGBTQ+ identities”.

The listing puts the group – whose members and endorsees now sit on school boards around the country – in the same category as anti-government organizations like the Oath Keepers, the Three Percenters and the John Birch Society.

The Moms for Liberty founders responded just as they should. They called out the ugly attacks against them.

In an emailed response to the Guardian’s request for comment, the Moms for Liberty founders Tina Descovich and Tiffany Justice wrote: “Name-calling parents who want to be a part of their child’s education as ‘hate groups’ or ‘bigoted’ just further exposes what this battle is all about: Who fundamentally gets to decide what is taught to our kids in school – parents or government employees?”

The pair added: “We believe that parental rights do not stop at the classroom door and no amount of hate from groups like this is going to stop that.”
