White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Friday that President Biden will deliver the Howard University commencement address in Washington, D.C. Saturday. Then he and Jill will spend the rest of the weekend at their beach home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Meanwhile, asylum agents with the Border Patrol were told on Friday that they will have to work both Saturday and Sunday this weekend.

Those aren’t exactly great optics for an incumbent president who is running for re-election. A federal judge blocked the administration’s latest policy to deal with the overwhelming number of migrants flooding the southern border. U.S. District Judge Kent Wetherell ordered the Biden administration to halt the quick migrant release policy. Border Patrol agents were given permission to use catch and release if the area was too overwhelmed to handle the flow of migrants. The concern is that they cannot be processed properly so they are being released into the United States. How is that a deterrent to illegal immigration? That’s an incentive for them to come now while there is confusion and additional chaos as Title 42 ended. What happens next is not known.

So far the flow of illegal migrants has remained about the same as it was before Title 42 ended. The numbers in the past few days, though, have increased to 10,000 or more per day. Many began coming across the border early to beat the rest of them when Title 42 ended. Since it is not known if the level of migration will continue as it is or if it will begin to explode, as predicted, the asylum agents are being required to work throughout the weekend. All hands on deck.

A DHS memo sent Friday morning by the associate director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Refugee, Asylum and International Operations (RAIO) and seen by Fox News Digital says that employees had been informed Thursday of the need for them to work at least one day this weekend — and now the agency is going a step further.

“Developments emerging over the course of the day made clear that more resources are needed, and we must take immediate steps to increase the number of staff available on both Saturday and Sunday to meet the need,” it says.

“In order to ensure full operational readiness, I must now ask that all Asylum Division employees, with limited exception, work both Saturday and Sunday this weekend,” Associate Director Ted Kim says.

The memo says that the only positions exempted will be those who do not provide direct support to “credible fear” process — in which migrants seeking to claim asylum first establish that they have a credible fear of persecution if returned to their home country.

The country going to hell in a handbasket has not stopped Joe Biden from spending 40% of his time in office on weekends off, either traveling to one of his homes in Delaware or going to Camp David. Joe just puts on his Ray-Bans and boards Marine One. Not a care in the world. Multiple sectors face overcapacity along the border. Border Patrol decided it should release the illegal migrants into the interior of the country. That policy has been blocked for 14 days by the judge.

Karine Jean-Pierre went so far as to accuse Judge Wetherell of “sabotage” on Friday when she was asked about the temporary hold he placed on the new catch and release policy instructions.

“On the ruling that you just laid out to me — so look, the way we see that, it’s sabotage, it’s pure and simple. That’s how that reads to us,” Jean-Pierre said. “The claims that CBP is allowing or encouraging release of migrants is just categorically false … and it is a harmful ruling.”

Sabotage. You can’t make this stuff up. Open border Democrats don’t like being stopped from destroying the southern border, even if it’s only for 14 days. A catch and release policy is literally what the DHS memo to Border Patrol agents described. They are to release them to relieve overcrowding. That means they are not going to be processed or given a date to show up for an asylum hearing.

In fact, The Post and other outlets have reported on hundreds of migrants being sent on to the American interior from border cities. In El Paso, Texas, alone, more than 1,100 migrants were released from US Customs and Border Protection custody on Thursday.

Jean-Pierre reaffirmed her choice of words moments later, again saying, “it’s a harmful ruling … we need Congress — beyond the ruling, beyond what we’re seeing from the sabotage, pure and simple … we want Congress to act.”

I think having a White House press secretary – the voice of the president – come into the briefing room and lie to reporters every day is more harmful. YMMV.

KJP refused to name names in the sabotage, though. Someone must have forgotten to write a name in her briefing book for her to read. She can’t speak without looking at that book.

When yet another journalist asked Jean-Pierre whether she was attacking the judge or Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody, who brought the suit, Jean-Pierre said, “I won’t go into a specific person,” passing on the opportunity to disavow her disparagement of one of the other two branches of government.

The White House’s main spokeswoman didn’t specify what policies Congress should enact to address the border rush.

We’ll see how the weekend goes. The Texas Tactical Border Force is holding the line in some spots and stopping migrants from crossing the border, much to the surprise of the migrants.

“With the ending of Title 42 on Thursday, President Biden is laying down the welcome mat to people across the entire world, but Texas is deploying our new Texas Tactical Border Force,” said Governor Abbott. “The Texas National Guard is loading Blackhawk helicopters and C-130s and deploying specially trained soldiers for the Texas Tactical Border Force, who will be deployed to hotspots all along the border to help intercept and repel large groups of migrants trying to enter Texas illegally.”

This is Biden’s America.
