Nothing to see here - Just 1,000 migrants storming a port of entry in El Paso

More than 1,000 migrants rushed the Paso del Norte Port of Entry along the US-Mexico border between Texas and Chihuahua state on Sunday. They pushed past the Mexican side of the border and ran toward the Paso Del Norte Bridge. Thanks to the reporting of Fox News reporter Bill Melugin, some of the chaos was captured and posted on social media.

Though crowd control tactics were used, some broke away and gathered at a smaller bridge nearby. Some migrants crossed by going through the river. As it happened, CBP called the massive crowd “a temporary disruption” due to “something going on in Mexico.” They weren’t able to provide much information at the beginning of the disruption. El Paso police and CBP assembled in downtown El Paso, which is about two miles from the Mexican border.

CBP released a statement.

“CBP officials including members of the CBP Mobile Field Force implemented port hardening measures at the Paso Del Norte international bridge at 1:30 p.m. today temporarily preventing the northbound flow of traffic on the Mexican side of the border and approached the international boundary posing a potential threat to make a mass entry,” the statement reads. “The CBP response included the deployment of physical barriers to restrict entry. As of 5 pm there is no traffic processing occurring at PDN.

Authorities said two other “temporary disruptions” occurred at the Stanton crossing and at the Bridge to America, causing law enforcement to set up barricades.

Rep. Monica De La Cruz serves Texas’s 15th District. She grew up in Brownsville. De La Cruz is the first Republican to represent Texas’s 15th congressional district since its creation in 1903. She weighed in on Twitter, posting a video that Melugin posted. She said the Biden administration must protect the men and women in green at the border.

Last Friday de la Cruz introduced the “Mayorkas Must Fly Coach Until We Secure the Border Act” in the House. The description reads as follows:

This piece of legislation would prevent Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and his staff from using a federal executive aircraft or any private jet, until he submits a plan to Congress to help secure the border. Until he submits a plan, Secretary Mayorkas and his staff would have to fly commercial aircraft for official work. The prohibition on private jet travel would be lifted upon submission of a comprehensive plan to secure the Southern Border.

“This bill simply recognizes what is already obvious to South Texans and millions of Americans: Secretary Mayorkas’ failure to secure the southern border has hurt the American people and resulted in a humanitarian crisis in communities like mine,” De La Cruz said. “If he refuses to fulfill the most basic functions of his office, he should be stripped of the private flights he currently enjoys, courtesy of American taxpayers, until he does his job.”

The legislation is co-sponsored by Reps. Andy Biggs (AZ), Andy Ogles (TN), Derrick Van Orden (WI), Anna Paulina Luna (FL), and Marjorie Taylor Green (GA).

I don’t look for anything to come of it but her statement is clear – Secretary Mayorkas cannot continue to go about his business as though nothing is going on. The Biden border crisis is deliberate. Mayorkas has not been held accountable by Biden because this is Biden’s policy. The administration is content with just standing on the sidelines while waves of illegal migrants cross the border. Storming a port of entry and shutting it down to vehicle traffic for hours? No big deal to them. Meanwhile, the Border Patrol agents and law enforcement in border communities are endangered by large groups who show no fear of brazenly coming across the border.

This is a national embarrassment. It is a national security risk. Migrants are not afraid and are not concerned about abiding by U.S. immigration laws. This incident happened at a port of entry. They intended to shut it down. Border Patrol had to use barriers to stop the flood of humanity coming across. De la Cruz is right – it is unacceptable. It’s been unacceptable for three years. Biden doesn’t care. It’s business as usual for Biden and Mayorkas.
