It’s not easy being an 80-year-old man and traveling the world. Joe Biden provided some awkward moments during his trip overseas this week. It’s no surprise, given his history, so maybe we should be surprised that he didn’t have more than he did.

Biden made a surprise visit to Kyiv to show support for Zelensky and the Ukranian people in their battle for sovereignty against Putin. Am I the only one who thought that he’d make the trip when it was reported that Biden would meet with other NATO countries in Poland to commemorate the one-year anniversary of Putin’s invasion? That is what presidents do when they go to a war zone – they keep the information quiet due to security reasons. This trip was a little unusual because, though it is a war zone, there are no American troops there. But, it was a show of support and it was important for the world to see. The press swooned. Biden went on President’s Day to Ukraine and if we are to believe press reports, he is the bravest, strongest president the United States has ever seen. Yes, it was ridiculous.

The press is doing its part for Joe Biden’s re-election campaign, though he has not officially declared himself a candidate yet. When air raid sirens sounded as Zelensky and Biden walked through the city, neither man even flinched. It was as though nothing was happening. At the time, I thought surely this isn’t just for show, to make the situation on the ground look more dangerous than it really is, but it now seems as though that may be true. The Blaze has a piece about the air raid sirens and how a CNN war correspondent on the ground in Kyiv spilled the beans.

Alex Marquardt, a senior national security correspondent at CNN, took the wind out of the media’s sails on Monday when he revealed the coincidental nature of those air raid sirens.

“The fact is life is relatively normal here in the capital these days. The fighting, of course, taking place hundreds of miles from here in the east and in the south,” Marquardt said.

“I’ve been here for the past five days. I have not heard any explosions. I have not heard any air sirens until about half an hour ago, right when President Biden was in the center of Kyiv,” he added.

Oh.

Moscow was notified in advance of Biden’s travel plans. You can draw your own conclusions.

Once Biden was safely back in Warsaw, he was greeted by Polish President Andrzej Duda outside the Presidential Palace as part of a welcoming ceremony. I like the pomp and circumstance of ceremonies. A long red carpet was place in front of Polish troops. Duda and Biden walked down the red carpet to inspect the troops, a traditional kind of move, and then they were to turn around and walk back up the carpet toward the Presidential Palace. Biden messed that up. Biden wandered off the red carpet and Duda and an aide had to try to guide Biden back. It didn’t work.

The footage shows Biden walking alongside Duda on a red carpet wide enough for two people. As they reach the end of the line, they swing around to seemingly walk back the same way, but Biden appears to walk off to the left before he’s urged by an aide to walk back the way he came along the carpet.

When one Twitter user pointed out that both presidents are walking off the carpet, Clark replied suggesting that’s not the case. “Yeah, to save Joe the embarrassment. The guide literally points to the carpet hoping Joe would get back on it, but NOPE!” he wrote with another crying laughing emoji. Dozens of people commented on Clark’s initial post with laughing emojis.

That was a mess.

While speaking to the press after meeting with Duda, Biden told a story about growing up in a Polish community. Oh boy.

“I was, as a young man, I was born in a coal town of Scranton, Pennsylvania, northeastern Pennsylvania, in an Irish Catholic neighborhood. Then when coal died, we moved down to Delaware, to a town called Claymont, Delaware, which was a working-class town, but everybody in town was either Polish or Italian. I grew up feeling self-conscious my name didn’t end in an S-K-I or an O,” Biden said.

He continued, “But all kidding aside, the connection between — I was telling the president, the pride, the overwhelming, demonstrable pride that Polish Americans feel about Poland and the role you are playing now, we were talking about it, it is extreme. It is. You would be — if you haven’t seen it, you should come and see it.”

The reaction on social media was what you would expect.

Newsbusters director Jorge Bonilla joked, “Biden betrays the Puerto Rican neighborhood of his youth, pines for Polish-sounding last name.”

“I thought he was Puerto Rican, and raised the a black church?” actor Dean Cain asked.

“For those who haven’t been paying attention, Biden is half half Puerto Rican, half black, half Jewish, half Republican, half Polish, half Italian, and half coal miner,” Grabien founder Tom Elliot tweeted.

Those stories just keep coming from Joe Biden. Bless his heart.

“I don’t have time.” He was standing right there. He could have said a few words. No one was going to stop him.

One final moment finished off Biden’s trip. He tripped going up the stairs leading into Air Force One. It was less dramatic than his original falls in March 2021, but it was noticeable.

We have until January 20, 2025, at least, of this stuff. Longer if we aren’t so lucky as to get a Republican back in the White House. Not that I’m counting.
