Mitt Romney does not think that George Santos should be in Congress. He made that point clear to reporters as he was surrounded by them outside after the State of the Union address. Santos irritated Romney by standing on the aisle as lawmakers and guests walked in, reaching out to shake hands with everyone.

It’s easy to understand his sentiment. Santos is a compulsive liar who lied his way into a congressional seat. Mitt Romney fancies himself as a voice of morality and virtue. So, it is not a surprise to hear Romney slam Santos for showing up to the State of the Union address. Romney hopes that Speaker McCarthy will find a way to remove him from the House. He is disappointed that McCarthy hasn’t called for Santos to resign. At the very least, Romney said, Santos should have sat in the back of the room and remained quiet, not grabbing attention by being along the aisle while everyone walked in.
“I didn’t expect that he’d be standing there (in an aisle seat) trying to shake hands with every senator and the president of the United States,” Romney said to reporters after the State of the Union. Given the investigations facing him, including a House Ethics complaint, “he should be sitting in the back row and staying quiet instead of parading in front of the president and people coming into the room.”
The senator described Santos as “a sick puppy” for his lies.
“He shouldn’t be in Congress, and they’re going to go through the process and hopefully get him out,” Romney said. “But he shouldn’t be there and if he had any shame at all, he wouldn’t be there.”
It’s abundantly clear that Santos has no shame. He has made a life for himself that is built on fantasy. Romney should not have been surprised that Santos was there and trying to get the attention of senators and others, including the president by doing what people like Sheila Jackson Lee do – show up early and stake out a spot on the aisle that the cameras will catch. This year, Jackson Lee received a kiss on the cheek from Biden as she greeted him.
Speaking of a kiss, let me stop and ask, what was this?
Jill Biden just kissed Kamala Harris’ husband on the lips.

Anyway, back to the Romney and Santos kerfuffle. Mitt’s right, of course, about Santos. We should expect better from our public servants. However, something like decorum is a thing of the past in politics. While it is understandable that Republicans jeered and shouted at Biden as he delivered his lies during the speech, it didn’t serve Republicans well. It played into the hands of Democrats. Independent voters were appalled, according to flash polling. McCarthy asked them to behave themselves before the speech. Some didn’t listen to that. Democrats don’t deserve to be allowed to take the high ground.
Santos struck back at Romney after the speech.
Hey @MittRomney just a reminder that you will NEVER be PRESIDENT! https://t.co/ANxiQPxAua

Now that they got that out of their systems, let’s talk fashion. More specifically, the dress that Senator Kyrsten Sinema wore. By the way, she sat next to Romney. Sinema often sets tongues wagging over her choice of attire. I find it amusing. When I saw a photo of her dress, well, I just shook my head. It’s ok except for the sleeves. And the solid bright yellow color. It didn’t scream State of the Union address. Her fashion style is how she gets attention. Naturally, there are plenty of comments on social media.

Heh. I think it’s interesting that she was sitting with Republicans and not Democrats. Sure, she’s an Independent now but she still caucuses and votes with the Democrats.
According to one reporter, Kamala turned her back on Santos as she entered the room.

We’d all be better off if the State of the Union went back to being delivered in letter form to Congress instead of a televised performance each year. Now people do things to get on camera. The speeches are becoming more and more bitter and partisan. Joe Biden didn’t even mention the southern border, Afghanistan, American veterans, and the deaths of police officers in the line of duty. He took the opportunity to trash Republicans, though, because he is now in full campaign mode. He and his administration are the ones saying they will not compromise when it comes to talks on the debt ceiling and spending. Yet, during the speech, Biden flipped that and said Republicans aren’t willing to talk. And Biden continues to lie about Republicans wanting to cut Social Security benefits and Medicare. He referenced Senator Rick Scott’s plan which no other senator has signed on to.
Let the media do Biden’s bidding today, as they do every other day, and claim the speech was wonderful. It’s what they do. They will do their best to get him re-elected, too. The fact-checkers are on a four-year vacation. The story will be about how rude the Republicans were to the president.
