Astronaut Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin announced on Facebook that he married his “longtime love” in a small ceremony in Los Angeles last week. They tied the knot on his 93rd birthday. It’s never too late to be happy. He said they are as excited as “eloping teenagers.”

Who doesn’t love that? The response on Facebook was as you would think. The announcement was posted last Friday, his 93rd birthday. By Saturday, the post had received 53,000 ‘likes’ and ‘loves’ and there were several photos of the newlyweds.

“I am pleased to announce that my longtime love and partner, Dr. Anca V Faur, and I have tied the knot. We were joined in holy matrimony in a small private ceremony in Los Angeles, and are as excited as eloping teenagers,” he wrote.

Buzz Aldrin made history with Neil Armstrong as the first human to set foot on the surface of the moon. Michael Collins was the third member of the crew. Armstrong was the first person to walk on the moon. As he took his first step, he famously said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” They fulfilled President John F. Kennedy’s vow to send a manned crew to the moon and safely return to Earth. The Apollo 11 mission occurred eight years after JFK announced a national goal of landing a man on the moon by the end of the 1960s. It happened on July 20, 1969. The final manned moon mission took place in 1972.

This is Aldrin’s fourth marriage. His new wife is 63 years old.

Dr. Anca Faur is a medical doctor who serves as executive vice president of Buzz Aldrin Ventures. As per her LinkedIn profile, she joined the company in 2019. She previously worked at the British chemicals company Johnson Matthey for more than 19 years.

Faur completed a Ph.D. in chemical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh in 1996.

She began her career as a project leader at Union Carbide. Anca Faur has also been a board member of the California Hydrogen Business Council.

As a side note, my father went to school with the younger brother of Gus Grissom in the small town of Mitchell, Indiana. There is a museum in honor of Gus’s life there today.
