My, my, my. The new governor of Arizona is Katie Hobbs, a Democrat. She announced that the state will fly illegal migrants out of Arizona to destinations of their choice. She’s going into the travel business.
When Governor Abbott transports illegal aliens out of Texas, Democrats and their fellow open borders enthusiasts have a hissy fit. Pearls are clutched, and teeth are gnashed. The inhumanity of it all. It’s a political stunt, they say. Yet, not a peep from anyone when the newly-elected Democrat governor in Arizona relieves some of her state’s burden. Funny how that happens, right?
The buses being used to move migrants from border communities to locations elsewhere will soon see the addition of 737 aircraft. The migrants are getting an upgrade and a ride to their desired final destination.
The program has expanded from buses to include the option of chartered air travel via a 737 aircraft, according to a state contract signed Jan. 14.
In a wide-ranging news conference at the state Capitol, the new Democratic governor said the controversial practice, started by her Republican predecessor, needs review to ensure it is effective. But she indicated it had some merit.
“It’s something that provides support to those local communities,” Hobbs told reporters, referring to border communities that are strained by the influx of migrants. “If we’re spending money to bus people, why not just get them to their final destination?”
Who wouldn’t prefer a seat on a 747 over a seat on a bus? The migrants will get to their desired location much more quickly. No need for a two-day trip to NYC when they can get on a plane.
Press Secretary Josselyn Berry wanted to be sure to make a distinction between the Hobbs administration and the Ducey administration. Republicans are icky, you know. Virtue-signaling must be performed at every opportunity by Democrats.
“We’re sending migrants to cities they actually need to go to and be connected with their sponsors, and we are doing it in a more cost effective way by looking at all travel options, not just buses,” Berry said.
She did not provide details on how many migrants have traveled under the new contract. The costs of the effort were not immediately clear.
It’s going to be more cost-effective but she didn’t bother to explain any details. It was more important to just jump out and tell the press how wonderfully they will deal with illegal aliens. It sounds like she is putting the cart before the horse since nothing is worked out yet.
The migrant buses used by the Ducey administration came with a cost of about $82,000 per bus trip. The buses typically hold about 50 people. It’s important to remember that the migrants volunteer for these bus trips, the same is true in Texas. It’s a free trip to a big city they may want to go to anyway. Others use the trip to make a connection to a final destination.
Immigration and border officials release illegal aliens who request asylum at shelters in Yuma, Tucson, and Phoenix. They are on their own to travel to their final destinations in the United States. Typically, their relatives or sponsors pay for bus or airline tickets. Now Arizona taxpayers will be on the hook for the total cost of their transportation.
Arizona set aside $15 million in its budget this year to pay for transporting migrants. The migrant bus program costs an estimated $1 million per month.
The dirty little secret is that DHS has been moving migrants from border communities ever since the Biden border crisis began in 2021. The department uses both buses and planes to transport them, often in the dead of night to not garner attention from locals. They travel into the interior of the country. Every congressional district in the country, except two, now has migrants. Think about that for a minute. The Biden border crisis is intentional. Everything is going according to plan. The result is that we are no longer a sovereign country without a secure border. Joe Biden doesn’t care.
