Iranian Parliament votes in favor of executing 15,000 women's rights protestors

A 22-year-old Kurdish woman named Mahsa Amini was detained by the morality police in Iran in September for allegedly not wearing her headscarf correctly. She was arrested and beaten. She later died from a fatal blow to her head. After that, protests erupted all across Iran. Women have risen up and burned their hijabs in bonfires to speak out in favor of women’s rights. Some even cut their hair in public in protest.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led Iranian lawmakers to vote in favor of executing 15,000 protesters for participating in the protests. The Iranian Parliament has not officially confirmed the vote in favor of mass executions but the Iranian officials did advocate for “no leniency” for protesters days ago.

In an open letter signed by 227 of Iran’s 290 members of Parliament, Press TV reports the lawmakers calls for protesters to be taught a “good lesson” to deter others who threaten the authority of the Iranian government.

“We, the representatives of this nation, ask all state officials, including the Judiciary, to treat those, who waged war (against the Islamic establishment) and attacked people’s life and property like the Daesh (terrorists), in a way that would serve as a good lesson in the shortest possible time,” the letter read according to state-run Press TV.

Lawmakers added that such a punishment – the methods of which were not specified – would “prove to all that life, property, security and honor of our dear people is a red line for this (Islamic) establishment, and that it would show no leniency to anybody in this regard.”

“A good lesson.” Women are not treated as human beings in Islamic countries like Iran. Beege wrote about the women in Afghanistan under the rule of the Taliban. I wrote about their ban from public parks and gyms. The women in Iran have it no better. Given that the Biden administration has failed to secure their precious nuclear deal with Iran (JCPOA), Iranian leadership will likely take out their anger on the women and men who are protesting for women’s rights. The fact that the protesters are not backing down despite brutal treatment from the morality police and their numbers continue to grow is truly amazing. Is this the time that change happens in Iran? Or, is it another disappointment as the Arab Spring was during the Obama administration? Obama refused to lift a finger to help the protesters in Egypt and it ended after 21 days. Will Sleepy Joe ever speak out against the Iranian leaders’ brutality to the protesters now that such draconian measures are being given the go-ahead by Iranian lawmakers?

We haven’t heard a peep from Biden yet. Now that the nuclear deal has failed, he no longer has that as an excuse to wimp out. Iran points a finger at the United States for instigating the protests.

The letter from the members of Parliament also reiterates prior Iranian government claims that the ongoing protests – that it calls riots – were incited by the United States and other enemies of Iran. Iran’s government has provided no evidence to back up its claims of foreign involvement in the protest movement.

Javaid Rehman, the U.N.’s special rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran, told the UN Security Council last week that as many as 14,000 people, including journalists, activists, lawyers and educators, had been arrested since protests erupted in Iran in mid-September.

Rehman said the “unabated violent response of security forces” had caused at least 277 deaths.

A Kurdish rapper named Saman Yasin was executed by the order of the Iranian government because of his support for the women’s rights protests. Again, brutal behavior at the consent from the mullahs and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is not new. It is how they keep their power. They intimidate and terrorize the people.

The U.N. normalizes the behavior and accepts Iranian leadership without hesitation to participate in General Assembly meetings. This beast was in attendance of a meeting on “social and humanitarian affairs and human rights issues.” *chef’s kiss*

An Iranian member of parliament who voted in favor of executing protesters has arrived in New York for a U.N. General Assembly committee’s meeting.

Parliament member Zoreh Elahian, who voted in favor of sentencing the protesters to death, is in New York City to attend a meeting of the General Assembly’s Third Committee. The panel’s agenda deals with social and humanitarian affairs and human rights issues affecting people worldwide, according to Bahman Kalbasi, the U.N. correspondent for the BBC’s Persian Service.

On Thursday, the Third Committee approved a resolution in favor of eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls, according to the U.N’s website.

Elahian is being accompanied by Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s deputy judiciary chief. It is uncertain how Gharibabadi and Elahian will be involved in the discussions, but according to the Islamic Republic News Agency, Gharibabadi will “meet and talk with members of the Non-Aligned Movement, the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, and ambassadors and permanent representatives of different countries.”

You can’t make this stuff up. How tragic.
