Sure, who among us has not mocked the press or felt like screaming at them? However, mocking the press in a juvenile manner as Joe Biden did Wednesday while posing with Israeli President Isaac Herzog is a bad look.

The daily press pool at the White House was doing what they do – photographing Biden and Herzog as they sat in chairs and faced the press during a meeting between the two world leaders. Reporters started to shout questions, as they do, at Biden and a bizarre moment occurred. He looked out at the press and began moving his mouth in rapid fashion as to mock them.

After exchanging a knowing grin with Herzog, he slaps his own knee, looks out at the press, and moves his mouth rapidly as if to imitate the rapid-fire questioning reporters as the sparring between them and the president continues.

I don’t know who he is looking over at while he makes the weird gesture but he clearly is amused with himself for his behavior.

Before we all became trapped in Biden’s America, it used to be pretty standard procedure that when photographers and press were called into the room while the president and a foreign leader met, each would say a few words. Reporters often prompted them by shouting out questions. Trump always said a few words before his staff hustled the press back out of the room. It was the same with Obama and every other president I can think of in recent memory. Otherwise, what’s the point of the press being there? Just send in a photographer or two and have them snap some shots to record the meeting and get on with their day.

Biden acted like a goober. It was disrespectful and immature. Remember, Joe Biden ran for president promising to bring civility and dignity back to the office. He said the grown-ups would be in charge. Instead, he’s the least transparent president in my lifetime. The current White House press secretary is woefully inept and incompetent. She either reads answers out of her briefing notebook or she says she doesn’t have an answer to the question. But, she checks three identity boxes so she’s allowed to continue on in her role.

Earlier this month, Biden attended a task force meeting on abortion (!) and the meeting suddenly was closed to the press.

As reporters were ushered out of the room they burst into questions aimed at the president, many of them centered on a report that Georgia Republican Senate candidate paid for an abortion of an ex-girlfriend in 2009.

But louder than the din of the reporters’ inquiries was a White House staffer shouting and directing the media out of the room.

‘Thank you very much, press, we need you guys to move, thank you very much.’

‘Among the only press in the world that does this. Seriously, seriously,’ Biden quipped with a smile.

Maybe someone in the White House can remind our president, a law school graduate, of the First Amendment. He seems to think he’s the smartest person in the room and doesn’t appreciate being questioned on anything. It’s certainly not a good look in front of foreign leaders.

Just last week, Biden took a rare stop to speak with reporters before departing the White House, but instead of just answering questions, the president berated journalists asking about his campaign stops and abortion restrictions.

One reporter was called a ‘kid’ while the president told another to ‘educate’ themselves.

Biden jogged over to the line of reporters gathered for his departure and yelled over the sounds of Marine One while delivering staccato answers to reporters.

‘John Fetterman’s gonna appear with you today in Pennsylvania, but there haven’t been that many candidates campaigning with you —’ CBS News reporter Weijia Jiang began.

Biden cut her off and leaned forward, yelling over the sounds of Marine One to say: ‘That’s not true!’

‘There’ve been 15,’ he insisted. ‘Count kid, count!’

Biden them moved onto Pro-life EWTN White House correspondent Owen Jensen, who asked if he supports ‘restrictions on abortion at all.’

‘Yes, there should be,’ Biden, a staunch Catholic, replied.

‘What should they be?’ Jensen pushed.

‘It’s Roe v. Wade. Read it, man. You’ll get educated,’ the president said.

It’s easy to make fun of the press, and I do my share of it, but Biden is supposed to be able to answer a question or two without breaking a sweat. It’s embarrassing for his staff to call all the shots. How many times have we heard Biden say he’ll get in trouble for taking questions, or that someone told him he can’t take questions? Many times. Who is in charge here? Jill Biden? She berated his staff after that marathon press conference in January that went on for almost two hours.

What about in May 2021 when a reporter wanted to ask about Israel and the president was about to test drive a new F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck? He said the reporter could ask about an ongoing conflict in Gaza if he stood in front of the truck.

Biden made the questionable quip Tuesday from behind the wheel of the new F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck when a reporter asked if she could ask “a quick question on Israel … since it’s so important?”

“No, you can’t,” Biden replied bluntly. “Not unless you get in front of the car as I step on it.”

The car-loving commander-in-chief insisted he was “only teasing” — but still raced away on a Michigan race track rather than accept a question on the ongoing conflict.

You get the picture. Biden is hostile toward the press. He mocks them and calls them names. His staff keeps him away from them. He hasn’t held a press conference in months. I think the last one was in April and he only took four questions. He carries little note cards with talking points and instructions on what to do in meetings. When was the last time he held a cabinet meeting?

Say what you will about Trump and his treatment of the press but he was available every day. He answered questions after every photo op and in every meeting. There was never any doubt what he was thinking on any topic. The press just goes along with Biden, though, and accepts his treatment of them without a peep. The hypocrisy is mind-numbing.
