That’s got to be a joke, right? One fact that sticks out like a sore thumb this midterm election cycle is that Democrats up for re-election are running away from Joe Biden as fast as they can. Biden’s poll numbers are bad and he’s a weight on Democrats, bringing them down. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution noticed that celebrities are parachuting into Georgia to campaign for Democrats like Stacey Abrams and Raphael Warnock but not Joe Biden.

Normally, candidates from his party would be lining up to request appearances with the president but not this year. Joe Biden has proven himself to be the worst American president in modern history and that is saying something, given the record of the likes of another Democrat, Jimmy Carter.

Yet, here we are. We’ve seen crisis after crisis during Biden’s term as president and most are of his own making. Don’t forget it was Barack Obama who said during the 2020 Democrat primary race, “Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to fuck things up.” Obama went on to say later in a conversation with a Democratic candidate, “And you know who really doesn’t have it?” Obama said. “Joe Biden.”

I very rarely say it but in this instance, Obama was right. Democrats didn’t listen and went ahead and nominated Sleepy Joe out of desperation and look what has happened. Democrats up for re-election, especially those in close races who would normally beg to have the president come and campaign for them, are too panicked to stand on the same stage as Biden.

As I wrote earlier, Stacey Abrams turned to her good friend Oprah Winfrey to help her cross the finish line in her second quest to challenge the Republican incumbent governor, Brian Kemp, but this time it wasn’t an in-person event in Georgia. Oprah did a virtual event for Abrams and supporters were encouraged to stream it from the Stacey Abrams campaign website. Naturally there was a pitch for donations when people logged in to watch.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (AJC) did a little write-up on the Oprah event and mentioned it lasted 30 minutes.

The two women talked about the 2018 election, which Abrams acknowledged she lost, but never conceded, and why she decided to run again.

“What wakes me up every morning, what keeps me going is the responsibility is there, but so is the opportunity, right?” Abrams said. “That if we do this right, if we get this done, things are so much better. People are so much stronger. And the opportunity I have is to be a part of making that so. Plus, I’ve watched a lot of television and that also helps a lot.”

As I mentioned in the earlier post, Abrams ego is large and she again talks about her part in making “things so much better” but other than that, I have no idea what she is talking about in that quote. What television is she watching? Cable news? Reruns of Veep? The West Wing? Maybe Young Sheldon? Your guess is as good as mine.

The best part of the very short write-up is when it quotes Abrams about the possibility of Joe Biden coming to campaign for her. Remember, Biden was in Atlanta back in February to slam Georgia Republicans for election integrity reform legislation and yell about Jim Crow 2.0 in Georgia. Voter suppression is Stacey Abrams’ big issue yet she avoided that rally. Why? Because that was about the time Biden really began to sink in the polls and she didn’t want anything to do with him. Now she coyly says she’s been in talks with the White House but, you know, Sleepy Joe is a busy man.

A few hours before the Oprah event, Abrams was asked whether she would welcome the president to the state.

“We’ve been in conversations with everyone. We’re inviting everyone down here,” she said. “But despite the fact that we think we’re the center of the universe, there are apparently some other elections happening around the country.”

Sure, there are other elections but none are as crucial for either party as Georgia. Georgia is one of the top five states being watched when it comes to flipping the U.S. Senate, for example. Republicans just need to pick up one seat and the Senate flips to Republican control. Jill Biden was in Georgia last week campaigning for Abrams and Warnock. Joe Biden was doing his West Coast tour last week.

The AJC notes that Biden’s approval rating in Georgia is below 40% in recent Georgia polls. My, my. That can’t be good for anyone on the Democrat side. Sounds good to me, though. Governor Kemp has a new ad up that highlights Abrams’ support of Biden.

“She sucked up to Biden. She backed his economic agenda, destroyed retirement savings, ravaged family budgets, sent America into recession,” the narrator says. “Here in Georgia, Brian Kemp stands his ground. Cowers to no one.”

The ad is titled “Totally”.

Abrams voted at a Stone Mountain YMCA on Wednesday. She had no Jim Crow problems, it should be noted. She held a news conference outside the voting site, of course, and warned Georgians that a heavy turn-out for early voting doesn’t mean there are no obstacles to voting, or something.

“Voter suppression is not about turnout, it’s about barriers to access,” she said. “And unfortunately, there are new barriers to access in the state of Georgia. As much as we are excited about the turnout, the record turnout that we’re seeing so far in a midterm election, we also know that people are being denied the right to vote.”

It’s to her advantage to keep voters angry over imaginary obstacles. She makes a lot of money off of that grift.

Comedian and game show host Steve Harvey did a PSA to get black men interested in voting for Abrams. Barack Obama is scheduled to come to Georgia before election day to campaign for her and Warnock. “Hamilton” creator Lin-Manuel Miranda campaigned for Warnock in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Despite the celebrity appearances, Abrams is still trailing Governor Kemp by more than 5 points. Real Clear Politics aggregate averaging has Kemp up 5.6 points. At this rate, there won’t be a need for a run-off. Let’s see if Abrams admits defeat and concedes this time around.

By the way, the race between Democrat incumbent Senator Warnock and Republican challenger Herschel Walker is a toss-up. Some recent polls show them tied. Real Clear Politics shows Warnock up by 2.4 points. Voters may come out to see a celebrity in person but that celebrity usually doesn’t really influence voters when it comes time to make a decision on for whom to vote. Those celebrities don’t even live in Georgia.
