KJP: Biden thinks MAGA Republicans are "an extremist threat to our democracy"

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said during a press briefing on Wednesday that President Biden thinks MAGA Republicans are “an extreme threat to our democracy, to our freedom, to our rights.” Now she is receiving blowback for condemning a major part of the American electorate.

Trump, the leader of the people who Biden labeled “MAGA Republicans”, received more than 74M votes in the 2020 presidential election. He won 46.8% of the votes cast. He received more votes than any other presidential candidate has ever received, except for Joe Biden. Yet Joe Biden is making the theme of his re-election campaign one of trashing Republicans as violent, extreme fascists. Is it any wonder that he is the most unpopular president since the days of Jimmy Carter?

Did you know that Joe Biden filed to run for re-election in 2024? He did. The paperwork was filed on Tuesday. Joe Biden will be 81 years old in 2024. He ran from his basement in 2020 because he already wasn’t up to a normal, strenuous presidential campaign. Do we think that he’ll be energetically running in 2024? Maybe that is why he is getting a head start now.

Is it normal for the president to call about half of the population “semi-fascists”? Biden ran on unifying the country and bringing back a sense of normal, whatever that means. He wants to heal the soul of America by demonizing Republicans, apparently. It’s an odd strategy from a career politician.

“The president thinks that there is an extremist threat to our democracy,” Jean-Pierre said in a preview of Biden’s planned speech for Thursday. “The MAGA Republicans are the most energized part of the Republican Party. That is an extreme threat to our democracy, to our freedom, to our rights.”

She added further that “they just don’t respect the rule of law” and are “pursuing an agenda that takes away people’s rights.”

Hmm. The Democrats are saddled with the Defund the Police movement, thanks to the progressive wing of the party. Biden went to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania on Tuesday and rolled out an initiative that will fund police called “Safer America Plan.” It is meant to combat crime and gun violence. It’s interesting timing. The mid-term elections in November are fast approaching and Biden knows Republicans will take back the House and likely the Senate, too. The spike in crime in cities across America is one of the issues Republicans are running on. The Defund the Police movement has had devastating consequences on police department all over the country. And, Joe Biden is making moves by executive orders that are face legal challenges – the latest being the cancelation of student loan debt.

Conservatives can argue that a real threat to our democracy is a president who governs by executive order, not through legislation in Congress, as Biden does. When he faces opposition, his first inclination is to name-call Republicans. So much for all his alleged experience in working with both sides of the aisle when he was in the Senate.

Karine Jean-Pierre called MAGA Republicans the most energized part of the Republican Party as she identified the threat to democracy. Her rhetoric mimics that of her boss and other Democrats. As soon as Biden started the whole MAGA Republican thing, Democrats made it a standard talking point.

“Pretty remarkable to see someone from the White House podium say that a group of ‘energized’ voters poses ‘an extreme threat to our democracy,’” wrote Chuck Ross, investigative reporter for The Washington Free Beacon.

“Unfathomably reckless rhetoric…,” tweeted Josh Hammer, Newsweek opinion editor, “…until you realize that the malice and cruelty is the entire point.”

Republican House candidate for North Carolina, Christine Villaverde, made a similar critique mocking Biden for his inability to unify the nation, “And this is supposed to unify a Nation? This Administration is committed to sowing further seeds of discontent and animosity. America deserves better. #Redwave2022 @NRCC @gop @ncgop @wakegop.”

This kind of rhetoric is dangerous, especially in such a divided political atmosphere. The president of the United States should be cooling the rhetoric down, not ratcheting it up. He can’t criticize Trump for his rhetoric if he is doing the same thing. Biden is all over the place in casting a poor light on Republicans in order to rile up Democrat voters enough to get out and vote in November. Will it play well to Independents, without whom neither side can win an election?

Biden himself had recently mocked Second Amendment advocates, seeming to imply that if they want to rebel against the American military they need fighter jets rather than mere firearms.

“For those brave right-wing Americans who say it’s all about keeping America independent and safe, if you want to fight against the country, you need an F-15. You need something more than a gun,” Biden said at a speech in Pennsylvania this week.

Shades of Barack Obama’s speech, also in Pennsylvania, when he called Republicans bitter clingers to their guns and religion there, Joe. The fact is that Democrats have labeled Republicans as fascists and racists for years. It’s what they do. Joe Biden isn’t doing anything original here. He’s just turning up the dial out of desperation.

The speech in Wilkes-Barre was very much a campaign-style speech so maybe that is why he chose to use that day to file for re-election. He may have wanted to avoid the possibility of being called out on an FEC violation. Certainly his primetime speech tonight on healing the nation will be all about his re-election campaign. The networks are allowing him time to campaign for himself and Democrats when typically primetime addresses by presidents are about policy or war announcements.

We’re in Biden’s America now. There is an abundance of crises and Biden chooses to spend 40% of his time on vacation and trashing Republicans instead of focusing on what needs to be done. So much for healing America, eh?
