The first bus filled with illegal migrants arrived in New York City from Texas. The bus arrived this morning at Port Authority Bus Terminal, Gate 14. Governor Abbott’s office released a statement that confirms the migrants were sent to New York City from Texas to ease the burdens placed on the state by the Biden border crisis.
Governor Greg Abbott today announced the arrival of the first group of migrants bused to New York City from Texas. The migrants are being dropped off this morning on a green bus at Port Authority Bus Terminal at Gate 14. In addition to Washington, D.C., New York City will now be a drop-off location for the busing strategy as part of the Governor’s response to the Biden Administration’s open border policies overwhelming Texas communities.
“Because of President Biden’s continued refusal to acknowledge the crisis caused by his open border policies, the State of Texas has had to take unprecedented action to keep our communities safe,” said Governor Abbott. “In addition to Washington, D.C., New York City is the ideal destination for these migrants, who can receive the abundance of city services and housing that Mayor Eric Adams has boasted about within the sanctuary city. I hope he follows through on his promise of welcoming all migrants with open arms so that our overrun and overwhelmed border towns can find relief.”
In April, Governor Abbott directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to charter buses to transport migrants from Texas to Washington, D.C. Since the beginning of this busing strategy, thousands of migrants have been transported to the nation’s capital while providing much-needed relief to Texas’ overwhelmed border communities. As one of the few cities in America with right to housing laws, New York City is required to provide emergency shelter for every unhoused person.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams declined an invitation extended by Governor Abbott to come to Texas and tour the southern border to get a first-hand look at the humanitarian crisis that the Biden administration has created. He would rather rail against Texas and Arizona in front of television cameras than actually do something productive. Adams weighed in on Abbott’s decision to bus illegal migrants to Washington, D.C. because many are traveling to New York City after arriving in Washington. Adams had the nerve to describe Governor Abbott and Governor Ducey as “cowards” for busing migrants out of Texas and Arizona in order to ease overcrowding at the border. During a press conference last month, he said, “Our country is home of the free, land of the brave. We do not become cowards and send people away who are looking for help.” Well, he almost got that quote correct. Our country is the land of the free and the home of the brave.
As Jazz’s post this morning points out, some Democrats are finally waking up to the Biden border crisis and the problems it creates. The governors are filling buses and sending them off to Washington and now New York City out of desperation. Governors Abbott and Ducey have tried for almost two years to get the attention of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris (the border czar), and DHS Secretary Mayorkas, only to be ignored. None of them cares about the fact that the southern border is porous and there are not enough resources along the border to handle the flood of migrants crossing over into Texas and Arizona from Mexico. Almost two million migrants have come to the border expecting asylum because of Joe Biden’s rhetoric.
Is this busload of migrants being dropped off in New York City an escalation? Yes. It’s a deliberate escalation because apparently that is what it is going to take to get some attention, and some help, along the southern border. Mayor Adams inserted himself into the fight by criticizing two governors doing all they can to keep their states safe and secure while dealing with hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants. Yesterday, Adams said that Governor Abbott should be providing housing for illegal migrants instead of sending them away. That statement was breathtakingly ignorant. What does he think has been happening in Texas? The migrants that DHS actually holds instead of releasing into Texas and other states are housed in detention centers or shelters. Is Eric Adams aware that Biden and Mayorkas have closed many detention centers along the border? They don’t think that detention centers are a humane way of handling the flood of migrants. You can’t make this stuff up, right? So, Mayor Adams can just take a seat with his thoughts on housing of illegal migrants.
New York City and Washington, D.C. are sanctuary cities. They welcome those in our country illegally. Non-governmental organizations and charities welcome the buses and provide information and assistance for the migrants. The bus that arrived in NYC this morning was welcomed, too. Abbott continues to send buses to Washington, too. The latest one arrived last night.
Roughly 50 migrants arrived at a Port Authority in New York City on Friday. They were greeted and brought into the custody of non-governmental charity workers and volunteers.
The latest busload of migrants from Texas arrived in D.C. late Tuesday night. Texas has said they have sent least 5,100 migrants to the nation’s capital.
Both Bowser and New York City Mayor Eric Adams have sounded the alarm about migrants being sent to their cities, with the city leaders blaming Arizona and Texas for the influx. (Arizona has denied sending migrants to New York City.)
Abbott has invited the mayors to visit the border, but Adams declined.
The number of migrants being sent to Washington and New York is miniscule compared to the almost two million that have crossed the border since Joe Biden took office. That the two mayors are already freaking out and calling for federal assistance shows how out of touch they are. Biden doesn’t care. Texas and Arizona have been on their own all along. It’s about time other cities and states were brought into the Biden border crisis.
