With Biden’s Build Back Better bill all but dead, Democrats are shifting focus to making their fever dream of federalizing elections come true. One way being used by Democrats to capture the attention of voters is to claim that democracy is in the balance, especially after the Capitol Hill riot on January 6, 2021. If former President Trump runs again in 2024, Democrat activists like historian Jon Meacham are sounding the alarm that it will produce a constitutional crisis.

Joe Biden is so desperate for a big legislative win that he now says he supports a carve-out in the filibuster rules to vote on the For the People Act. Jon Meacham scares his audience, Democrats, into thinking that if Trump runs and loses again, he will do as he did in 2020 and refuse to accept the loss. He will again claim the election was stolen from him. Meacham appeared on Fareed Zakaria’s Sunday show on CNN and when asked if such a scenario would present a constitutional crisis, Meacham responded by saying, “It’s an unfolding one.” An unfolding crisis.

‘I think it’s an unfolding one,’ Meacham replied, calling it ‘an interesting use of the word crisis.’

Meacham said the riot at the Capitol on January 6 was the closest America came to forfeiting its Democracy since the Civil War.

‘I think we came as close to losing the Constitution… that day as we have since Fort Sumter,’ he said.

Ah yes, a Civil War reference by a hyperbolic historian. The attack on Fort Sumter marked the official beginning of the American Civil War. We know how that war ended. Meacham’s assumptions don’t take into account that Trump may not run in 2024, or that he might win outright in 2024 as he did in 2018, or that a second Trump loss likely wouldn’t produce the same results as in the riot that happened on Capitol Hill. That’s a lot of uncertainty. It shows Meacham’s arrogance, though, and his disdain for Trump and those who support him. As I mentioned above, Meacham is a Democrat activist and a disgraced historian. He helped write Biden’s inaugural address. Meacham didn’t bother to disclose that fact when he was playing analyst on MSNBC. He also wrote Biden’s speech at the DNC in the summer of 2020 and his speech in Gettysburg.

Meacham, a 2009 Pulitzer Prize winner for a biography on Andrew Jackson, was previously dropped by MSNBC after he failed to disclose that he had been helping write Biden’s speeches.

The political analyst had most recently appeared on air to comment on the presidential election as well as Biden’s victory speech the Saturday night following the 2020 presidential election.

Meacham, however, did not tell his employers that he himself had been involved in crafting Biden’s speeches, including his acceptance address in Wilmington, Delaware, The New York Times reported.

The voting act that Democrats are eager to ram through all the way to Biden’s desk put elections into the hands of the federal government and away from states. Instead of continuing with elections being conducted by states, using election laws passed in state legislatures, Democrats want a nationalized approach. This is directly in contrast to the wishes of the Founding Fathers, but the Democrats want a permanent majority and permanent governing control so here we are. After the 2020 election and the various actions of some election officials in several states, many red states passed legislation to secure election integrity. Democrats want to up the ante and take it to D.C., which is their answer to everything.

The legislation would bring back some allowances made in 2020 for voters, allegedly due to the pandemic, such as drive-thru voting, and universal mail-in voting. It does away with voter id requirements, ushers in ballot harvesting, taxpayer money would fund political campaigns, and ballots can be counted 10 days after an election. It also allows same-day voter registration and automatic voter registration for minors. Sound good? Only if you are a Democrat. It should be noted that Democrats now calling for a filibuster carve-out were against such a measure not so long ago, like Biden and Schumer. Even Obama didn’t think changing the filibuster was prudent. Now Biden simply says, “Whatever it takes.” He should give a heads-up to Kamala on his change of mind.

Another Democrat historian joined in with Meacham’s hyperbole on the Sunday show.

Fellow historian Doris Kearns Goodwin joined the panel and argued that securing voting rights and a peaceful transition of power is ‘the fight of our life right now,’ suggesting that state legislatures overturning elections could mean every election could be contested.

It’s a candidate’s right to contest an election. There are provisions in many places that require a recount of votes to automatically be triggered if an election is close enough. Democrats only like questions and recounts if it goes in their favor, right, Al Gore? How about Democrats trying to overthrow the election in 2000? I still clearly remember that national nightmare. Democrats? Not so much.

You can disagree with Trump’s handling of his defeat and still support our election system with the states in control. It is not a constitutional crisis. Events got out of control on January 6 when a protest after a speech by Trump and others turned into a riot on Capitol Hill but I never once thought that our constitutional republic wasn’t up to the challenge. Our system survived and that is the beauty of our republic and acknowledgment of the wisdom of our Founding Fathers.
